Description:

Yarn snobs need not apply.

This swap is just for the acrylic yarn everyone loves to hate, but we all have it in our stash. The Red Heart, Sayelle, Wintuk, Caron etc.

Admit it. Acrylic yarn has its uses. It's good for toys, amigurumi, freeform, dog blankets-lol...

I love natural yarns and will fork over a pretty penny on just one skein, but when it comes to buying acrylic, I can't justify spending a couple of measly dollars for a fat skein that is going to take me forever to use up.

We will be sending to one partner 5 ounces worsted weight acrylic in 5 different colors, 1 ounce for each color(approx. 55 yards per ounce). Limits- one ball may be variegated, one ball may be vintage(clean!), and only one ball may be brown!

No color wish lists. This is to help spread out our stash, not buying to suit our partner's wants. But, feel free to look at your partners profile for color ideas.

International. If that's a problem, don't sign up. No no-sends within the past three months. Newbies welcome with a filled profile. I do final checks when sign-ups end.

I was cleaning out my stash the other day and I have so much acrylic that I'm just bored with. Swapping will be a great way to fix that!

I checked this swap out because I thought it was about acrylic painting! LOL

manxkity 06/14/2008 #

LOL I did too, Karen...but then HEY I have lots of acrylic yarn. I just was given another wad last night.

Hey! There's a swap idea, but I couldn't join. I use every bit of my paints!

Just the swap for me!

so how is a good way to estimate a 1oz ball?

kidsceo 06/23/2008 #

I hate to admit it, but I actually like to work with acrylic yarn! I guess because that's all I ever worked with. I never worked with anything else. Does Homespun yarn from Lion Brand count as an acrylic too?

na195097- One ounce off my yarn winder comes up to about a 3-3.5 inches in diameter somewhat squishy cake. Since hand winding can be a lot tighter, about a 2.5-3 inch ball. Or about 55 yards.

kidsceo- I was thinking more of the smooth, worsted weight kind. Homespun is a bulky weight yarn. The required 5 ounces should be the regular worsted, but anything after is your choice.

I personally like acrylic yarn. It's easy care and hypo-allergetic. :) If you wash and dry your project a few times with liquid fabric softener, it's decent for a lot of things.

I've got tons of it and tons of scraps already balled up! I'll double check size based on your estimates. I may finally end up getting my granny square scrap afghan finished. :)

I use my handy dandy postal scale to estimate a 1oz ball. :o)

If anyone ends up needing an Angel, let me know :-) I'll be more than happy to.
