Description:

Each participant will buy a child's puzzle (small, with large pieces) at the dollar store, and will write their name and swap information on the back of each puzzle piece. Send 4 puzzle pieces to each of your partners to decorate/embellish as they wish. The completed puzzle pieces will be returned to each participant, who will end up with a beautiful altered puzzle (remember to decorate some of your own puzzle pieces...there has to be some of "you" in your finished puzzle!) to display as desired.

This is a time-intensive swap, since there are two parts. The first part is to send your 4 puzzle pieces to each of your partners. Then, of course, you will decorate and return their altered puzzle pieces to them.

It's very important to decorate only the top of the puzzle pieces...no glue or paper should extend beyond the top edges, or you will have a hard time fitting your finished puzzle together! Pinterest is full of gorgeous inspiration...several of us have participated in one of these swaps in another group, and can attest that it's not only fun...it's addictive! This is the time to bring out your tiny embellishments and those small-scale background papers. Have fun, and be creative!

So you should buy a 20 piece kids puzzle? That way, it's complete when you get the pieces back (if you also alter 4 of the pieces). If you don't want to "contribute" you could get a 16 piece one.

I did a swap years ago very much like this one and it is one of my all time favorite swaps.Back then we chose a theme and our partners stuck to that theme.Thank you so much for hosting this swap.

After hearing from some of our international participants, I've extended the "send by" date by two weeks, giving everyone five weeks to receive, alter, and return the puzzle pieces to their owners. Given the amount of time it takes for international mail, and knowing how we like to send our best efforts to our swap partners, I think the five-week turn around time will be better.

I love this idea after seeing a number of altered puzzle pieces shown on youtube channels. :)

I really want to do this terribly bad and I have had my puzzles for a very long time, but the postage fees would kill me. If someone decides to do a USA swap can you let me know?

I've edited the swap "send by" date, due to international postal issues...this should not impact anyone whose puzzle pieces are finished and mailed (or ready to mail), but will help some of our swap participants breathe a sigh of relief!!!
