Description:

This is a swap for washi tape lovers! I have done similar swaps outside of swap-bot, let's see if anyone is interested to do this here :)

For this swap, you will prepare a white cardstock measuring between 4x6 to 5x7 inch (10x15 to 12x17 cm). You can also use one of those ready made make-your-own type of blank postcards if you have them. You will decorate one side with a collage of stripes of washi tapes from your collection. Washi tapes must cover the whole side of the card.

The design is sender's choice. Some ideas :

  • create fun shapes or a picture with your tapes
  • color themed (rainbow! or all of your pink tapes!)
  • a mini collection which shows ALL of your tapes
  • random patterns, etc.

The picture above is just an example of a card that I made in the past. Size of each strip, direction of the strips and other design elements involved are sender's choice. Please use AT LEAST 5 different tapes for the card.

The back of the card will be for address, stamps and messages as any other postcards.

I understand that washi tapes have different qualities, some sticks better than the others. For this swap, you can choose to send the card either naked or in an envelope. If sending the card naked, please make sure the card base is firm enough, and that you have trimmed the sides neatly. Use fixatives, finishing mediums, or clear adhesive film on top of your tape collage if you find it necessary to do so. If you're not sure the tapes will survive the travel without falling apart, you can send in an envelope or an OPP plastic bag with the part on top of the stamps cut out.

Tell your partner about your washi obsession or collection in your message :)

  • I categorize this as type 3 because I assume the card would be a time-intensive craft
  • Do not use non-washi tapes (plastic deco tapes, painter's tapes, duct tapes, etc)
  • Please send something you would be happy to receive yourself
  • Don't forget to write swap name and your swap-bot username on the card
  • Please only join the swap if you are sure you can send the item required on time
  • No newbies / unrated swappers for this time
  • I will angel if necessary

This is basically sender's choice, so you can start your card immediately. If you want, you can also check your partner's profile to match their favorite color or themes when partners are assigned.

Have fun with your washi tapes collage!

if sending the card naked PC sizes for the US Post Office are

  • Minimum 3 1/2" x 5"

  • Maximum 4 1/4" x 6"

I have so many tapes. How can I tell if they are 'washi" tapes?

liveve308 01/13/2015 #

@fawnscraft washi tapes are made of paper, not plastic, fabric etc. If you can tear it nicely it's probably washi :)

taxcha 01/13/2015 #

@flowerchild Thank you for the info :) I have changed the required measurement to standard postcard size.

taxcha 01/13/2015 #

@fawnscrafts yes, like @liveve308 said. Washi tapes are basically paper masking tapes. It has a quality closer to masking tapes used for paints than shiny plastic deco tapes/fun tapes. You can rip washi tapes without using any scissors :)

This is by far the best and most exciting swap on Swap Bot <3

ArtyBeth3 01/15/2015 #

Could we cut the card we are collaging on a little smaller and wrap the tape around to the other side and then when we're done, adhere that card to a larger card (postcard size) so it forms a border and also nicely keeps the ends of the less stickier tapes held down?

taxcha 01/17/2015 #

@ArtyBeth3 yes, sure! Border is a great idea! I'd say the paper border from the larger card should be really thin, though.

Can we use the front of a bought postcard, one we do not like so well?

fawnscrafts 01/20/2015 #

if not will you remove me from the swap please?

taxcha 01/20/2015 #

@fawnscrafts yes you can use the front of a store bought postcard :) Just make sure the original picture of the card doesn't distract from your collage since some washi tapes are pretty transparent.
