International Women's Day is celebrated on the 8th March every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. In other regions, however, the political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. For this swap- i thought it would be fun if we created a piece of art celebrating either a general love of women, or paying respect to a particular woman (either personal or in the public eye), or a piece which focuses on a political issue/ international struggle. Previous UN themes include: - World free of violence against women - Women uniting for peace - Afghan Women today: realities and opportunities - Gender Equality and the millennium development goals - Women and men united to end violence against women and girls - Equal access to education - Empower rural women, end poverty and hunger. The medium of your piece can be absolutely anything- drawing, collage, embroidery, a poem/ short story, photograph, but please spend a little time and effort on it! The style you chose is totally up to you! There aren't any size requirements due to the open nature of the swap. This is totally senders choice, so please rate accordingly even if the piece isn't to your taste. |
