Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:August 22, 2008
Date items must be sent by:September 13, 2008
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

This is an international swap. Must have minimum 5 successful mail swaps. No recent or unexplained no sends.

Many of us are receiving lots of great mail every day and our poor men are left out. They feel sad. :-( But they are too manly to join a SWAP, right? That's for giiiiiiirrrrllllssss.

So for this swap, you will have 2 partners and you will send each of those partners a package for THE MAN in her life, addressed to said man, and including things he will like, for him.

(If you are single, feel free to join up with a man you love in mind who has some other role in your life.)

When you sign up, please leave a comment with your man's name (who to address the package to), and a detailed message with his likes and dislikes. These should be GENERALLY AVAILABLE items. I had someone whose boyfriend only liked things I had never heard of and cannot buy in a US store. It was really really hard. Keep in mind this is an international swap so give your partner lots of ideas.

NO: My husband only likes BMWs, [weird candy only available in China], and Wii games.

YES: My husband is really into cars and he likes fishing. He doesn't eat chocolate but he likes interesting salty snacks. His favorite color is blue.

I will not put a dollar value on the swap, since we are mailing internationally and that can be very expensive. I will say, a minimum of 3-4 items is good, more if you are mailing inside your own country.

I was in one of these last year and it was soooo awesome! You should have seen his face when I told him "This is addressed to you" and the box was from ENGLAND! And all the stuff in it was so perfect for him -- he loved it all! Friends were over and everyone crowded around to see what he got -- it was like CHRISTMAS! He just kept saying, "How did this woman know what to get me???" like he just couldn't believe it!

And then I told him he had another package coming too!

Totally awesome and let's face it -- we love them and want them to be happy, right?

PM if you have any questions. (If you and your hunny don't live together, the package may be addressed to you, with ATTN: [his first name] on it. When you get the package, you'll know not to open it, and to keep it for him.)

PS. It would be nice if you could message your partner when the package has been opened and let her know of his reaction to receiving it and what he got. That's the best part!

Okay I'll go first. Joe and I have different last names, so address the package to me, with ATTN: JOE on it and I'll be sure not to open it.

Joe is into cars. He really really likes cars. And he has a little boy who likes cars so anything he doesn't use he'll give to his son. Joe drives a VW and he likes European performance cars and also hot rods. He goes to auto shows and does road rallys and all that. He also likes motorcycles (but not Harleys).

Joe is into any and all adventure sports too -- skiing, surfing, rock climbing, motorcycles, etc. In fact, he likes sports in general and is always watching some game. He is a big soccer (football) fan, especially MANCHESTER. If you are in the UK and can send anything Manchester HE WILL LOOOOOVE IT. Anything related to European soccer teams is good.

Joe likes chocolate of all kinds and he likes citrus flavors. His favorite candy is dark chocolate covered orange peels and he also likes DOTS and any other kind of gummy candy, especially anything orange or lemon or lime. He hates coconut. He doesn't have a favorite color that I know of, but he likes blue and black.

I don't know if you might need a size, but Joe is very tall, though not fat at all. He is 6'4" and maybe 200 lbs. He generally wears an x-large. His favorite music is techno and trance, he also likes rock music. He likes camping but only goes once a year.

This is a great idea. I have to think about what my guy likes.. I think he likes to be surprized and he is very open to everything. So I won't be specific, I'll just say he's in his thirties, tall and slim, father of a three year old (my son :-)) and a filmmaker.

Meadow 08/14/2008 #

Noga -- I am sorry but you really need to give more specific information. Shopping for a man is always hard. Shopping for a man you've never met and know nothing about except what he looks like and what he does for a living is impossible. He might be open to "everything" but I am sure if he got a box filled with Hello Kitty notecards, feminine hygiene products and a handmade apron a la Anne Taintor he would be very confused.

jacqredwine 08/15/2008 #

Meadow, you crack me up!

This is such a great idea. Maybe now my hubby will understand what it feels like to get fun mail, not just bills!

Check out my profile for info on Robert.
I started to enter it here but it was really long.

tristia 08/15/2008 #

What a great idea! I was going to start a swap so my other half could get some postcards! :) If I'm not too busy closer to the date I'll sign up for sure!

Noga 08/15/2008 #

Oh, I see what you mean. I'll think about it. Thanks.

This is going to be fun, I love shopping for guys!

My man is 42, and really likes fish and ocean items (themes), candles (collects cool texture or color combos) also makes them so any supplies are great, corvette memorabilia, dirt track racing, hard rock/metal music, native american and alaskan native items (necklaces, handmade medicine bag, real feathers, bone), books on alaskan history. He especially likes and collects Scouting patches, and patches from your local district would put him over the top.

He is a father of three, 18,15,10 and we run a mail and shipping center together. He used to be mechanic so he loves cars and trucks and racing.

Hope that is detailed enough. I look forward to this swap.

Alright, so I have a fiance named Marcus Jetmore.

Marcus is almost 24 and is interested in many things. He works in IT, so any cool computer gadgets make him smile. He is a huge fan of movies, music, and junk food. He recently got into photography- loves macro. Loves the Phoenix Suns, well he enjoys most sports and considers himself to be a "mans man." Meaning- he loves camping and being a man but also likes to be pampered with some Biore nose strips when he sees me wearing them. :]

His favorite colors are blue and green. He wears a sized medium and prefers skate shop style tshirts that arent too flashy. We are obsessed with Battlestar Gallactica, Planet Earth, and Dead like me.

Candies he likes: skittles, starbursts, fruity things, those BIG laffy taffy things, trident gum, not too big on chocolate but will munch on it. HATES: black licorice, dark chocolate, 3 musketeers.

I think thats good.

Noga 08/17/2008 #

I think this might be a bit big for a new kid like me, so I'll join you next time. have fun!

stitchesaroundtheworld 08/19/2008 #

My mans name is Donald and is an ex-Marine. So he loves anything that has to do with Marine Corps, military, his favorite color is green.

He loves chocolate, peanut brittle, gum, and tic tacs, and if you can find it sponge candy without the chocolate covering. His favorite cologne is Brute.

He loves pictures of things especially outdoor pictures with beautiful scenes.

Donald also loves flashlights. He has an obsession with them I think. LOL. Oh and his birthday is the 10th so this one is perfect timing. He will never know about it and be so surprised.

He loves 70's style music and I don't think that he really has a favorite except he likes easy listening more.

Notebooks, black pens are some other things he loves and can never have enough of.

He loves gorillas and will love you to death if he could get one that looks real. Even a picture from your local zoo he would love.

He's into horror films, monster magazines (if you have any of those he will love you to death too) He loves military vehicles especially tanks.

My gosh I could go on forever so I hope I gave you a good picture of what he likes LOL.

stitchesaroundtheworld 08/19/2008 #

ifluctuate 08/19/2008 #

My fiance's name is Steven Elich - we don't live together Yet so please put ATTN on the package and then his name, so I'll make sure not to open it.

He is 39 years old. He loves classic muscle cars from the 50's and 60's and anything to do with them. He breeds small parrots, so any small parrot toys from your local pet store would be perfect! He's a big sci fi movie junkie, and also loves super hero movies. If you get him anything Batman he'll love you forever. He especially loves the new Batman's with Christian Bale. Any batman posters, or poster to do with Parrotlets or Alexandrian Parrots would be awesome, but probably hard to find. He also loves Boxers (the dog). His shirt size is XXL, though he is trying to lose weight so XL would be fine as well, but he likes them to be loose fitting and he's a "bigger" guy. He listens to mostly Classic rock from the 70's and 80's. His fave band is KISS. He also likes Journey, Heart, Def Leppard, Blue Oyster Cult, and Queen.

He loves chocolate of any kind. Goes crazy for chocolate. He also likes cookies. He loves those little weight watcher candies that you can find at some stores in the USA. He also likes those crystal light singles packages, and crystal light candies they now have. Other things he might like: pens (he never has any that work!!), pocky, 100 calorie snacks, stuff for his car. Hmm I can't think of anythng else, hopefully that is enough info. Oh he also really likes Star Wars and Star Trek.

Meadow 08/20/2008 #

these comments are all so fun! i can't wait to see who I shop for!

Oh I also wanted to mention in RE; JOE -- he looooves POKER. He even joined a lodge so he could play in their weekly poker tournaments (dorkus mallorkus ha!). He also has a long commute and he reads a lot on the bus -- so if you want to send any magazines or books or whatever, that would be great --I have bought him magazines on cars, VWs, music, poker, sports, and also books on music/bands, political conservatives (like Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter, ugh), sports [especially soccer], Macs, etc.

Just some more ideas for ya.

How fun! My husband, Charles, always gets the mail, and he frequently opens my swaps (out of curiosity? Jealousy? I dunno, lol ;)

Charles will be 27 on Sept 28th. He loves Volkswagen, and just bought a black '67 Beetle a couple weeks ago. He loves to work on his car (VW requires metric tools).

He likes to go fishing; we fish off the wharf about once a week (ocean fishing).

He is a home brewer, meaning that he likes to make beer, wine, and mead, and he has a still for making the hard stuff, but hasn't actually done that. He likes microbrew beers, hates the "big beers" (Bud, Miller, Coors), and has a nice little collection of brewery posters, banners, fridge magnets, and such. he drinks scotch on the rocks, but is always looking for new and/or interesting cocktail recipes.

Charles is in the Army, and likes to run and hike (well, he calls it "marching", lol). He recently lost his watch, which he used for the stop-watch feature while exercising. He's also really into guns, gunsmithing, gun history, etc. We shoot our pistols at an indoor range about twice a month (things he always needs: safety glasses, ear plugs, paper targets). He is always in need of military-related decor for his office at work (he is a recruiter for the next 18mos - we BOTH hate his job right now, lol).

Charles always has a deck of cards on him, and does a LOT of card tricks ("magic"! lol). Books on card tricks, NEW decks of cards (a deck of cards used for magic tricks is only good for maybe a week, before they get too sticky to slide smoothly), and large coins (for coin tricks) are good. He would probably really like a foreign coin that is about the size of our U.S. half dollar (about 1.5in across).

He loves his cats, and loves to play with them. He has been puttering about for about 6 months trying to find the laser pointer he used to play with them with.

Charles loves punk rock, Pink Floyd, Lynard Skynard, AC/DC. His favorite band is Bad Religion. He collects band tshirts (size large). His favorite color is black, and he does not wear red or yellow shirts (altho those colors are fine as a part of a design).

He is a big practical jokester, and especially likes things that SHOCK people (like those little hand-buzzer things? Yeah...THAT was fun O_o)

A few other things I can think of that he would like: bbq recipes (marinades, sauces, etc), ballcaps (especially if one could be found with a non-"big beer" beer logo on it; he has a collection of Guinness caps. No sports caps), novelty lighters, World of Warcraft stuff...Hm, that's all I can think of right now, lol...I think that should be enough ;)

Oh, one thing, Charles really REALLY dislikes sports, tiedye, and liberal political stuff. He really likes to play frisbee. And he does like hand-made things (he frequently oohs and ahhs over the swaps I receive). He has been asking me for a small soldier softie for his desk at work ;)

kylanicole 08/21/2008 #

Wow, I didn't realize mine was sooo long! I shoulda put it on my profile, sorry! =X

stacirose 08/22/2008 #

One of the men in my life is my fabulous nephew!

He loves the color orange, is turning 9 in December, and is one of the funniest kids I've ever met! He loves Transformers, Star Wars, and arts & crafts (an age appropriate car model or coloring books would be loved!). A remote controlled car and you'll be his best friend!

He has a leapfrog, and his own DVD and he loves watching movies! His favorite books are Captain Underpants, so anything in the same genre would be great! (ex: My Weird School or Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot and others). School supplies would be great for him right now, too! (more orange the better! LOL!)

He loves cars! Has TONS of the matchbox/hotwheels etc. He also likes to play outdoors with his neighbors and loves the family dogs. His favorite team is the Seattle Seahawks and he just started his first year of football!

If you have any questions at all, just send me a message! :)

Thank you!
