Description:

When I was a Girl Scout leader, we loved to send our troop mascot to other troops through the mail with a journal and a disposable camera. It was always great to get him back and read the journal to see what he'd done, and have the film developed to see where he'd been.

I'd like to try this here, and see how it works. It could be really cool - or it could be a disaster. This will be a different type of swap because you aren't keeping the item sent to you. This will involve more postage on your part than a normal swap would, and thus, will cost more. This will require more communication than normal as far as The stuffie has arrived followed by I've mailed the stuffie back to you.

The sender: You will be sending a small stuffed animal (think Beanie Baby size, or smaller) and a small notebook to be used as a journal for the stuffie's 'adventures'. If you wish to send a disposable camera, perhaps the host family can take pictures of your mascot at local places and attractions, and with the host family. Try to keep the stuffie, the journal and the camera as compact and tidy as possible because someone has to pay to send it back to you and we don't want it being a hardship. If you were super nice, you could maybe pick up a pre-paid postage label at the post office to send along, as well. The "Date items must be sent by" is when you mail to your host family (ie, your partner from swap-bot).

The host family: You will be getting a package in the mail of a mascot, a journal and perhaps a camera. It will be your job to chronicle the "life and times" of the stuffie while it is living with you. Take it to the grocery store, take it to the kid's schools, family gatherings, 'tourist' type spots or city signs for pictures if a camera was sent with your stuffie. You could also use your digital and take pictures, then email the files during the stuffie's 'visit', if you wish. Most importantly, after your visit is up you have to send the entire package back to the sender. Please, don't hold anyone's beloved stuffie hostage. Please email your partner when the stuffie is in your possession, and return the package by March 26th.

  • One partner
  • This is an international swap.
  • I'm not putting an age limit on this since kids of all ages like mail, but I think that older kids would maybe feel silly walking around with a stuffed animal taking pictures. I don't know.
  • Please don't send a cherished friend. I suggest picking up one to be used just for adventuring. I don't want anyone's beloved friend lost somewhere in the world if something bad happens.
  • Your package will include the stuffed animal and a journal, at least. Send a disposable camera and extra things, if you wish. Please include your email address in your package so your partner can let you know when it shows up and when they've mailed it back.

  • Senders : you need to mail your package to your host family no later than Feb. 26

  • Host Families : You need to mail the package back to it's real family on March 26.

I reserve the right to drop anyone that has a rating of less than 4.0 and/or more than two no-sends. Everyone deserves to receive something. Please keep up your end so nobody has a bad experience. Newbies are welcome to play. Thanks.

So this is alot like the travelling Gnome ting huh??? That is such acute idea!!! I think i will join!!!

Simsan 02/12/2007 #

Hi could you clarify if our stuffie will only go to one family or multiple families?

JaneR 02/12/2007 #

This sounds so fun, I think my 8 year old daughter will get a kick out of it. :-)

missnatalie 02/12/2007 #

elizabeth4510: glad to have you. :)

simsan: your stuffie will go to one family - the partner that swap-bot gives you. everyone is on their honor to send them back to the real family on the 26th of March.

JaneR: My daughter is going through all of her stuffies (she must have a ton. I think they multiply) trying to figure out which one 'wants' to travel. :)

nc001 02/13/2007 #

My son loved the idea. He's 4 (almost 5) and he's already making plans to take the new arrival around with his best bear Bertie. The new arrival will get to spend Paddy's Day in Ireland, we'll find a parade to take them to!!

Whoever gets me, don't worry about sending a disposable camera. We have plenty of digital cameras in our house so we'll take pics on them and send them to you (email and/or real photos).

Hi I really want to do this for my pal. She has some disabilites and is a bit of a child. Would that be ok? I will send her info..actually since i use my work address and she is an artist at our agency you can mail it to her there and it would really shock her .. i will let her know i set something up for her.

would now to go find a special mascot. christy

ElizabethObviously 02/16/2007 #

I hope my stuffie goes to Nina! I would love to see Ireland myself lol!

missnatalie 02/17/2007 #

Please join, lizardplum. There's no 'real' age limit on this. I just put "for kids" in the title so people would be willing to sign their kids up, as well, if they wished. :)

Clayshaper 02/21/2007 #

I have done this sort of thing once before, when a friend paid for a part of our vacation so we could GO- we almost missed the deadline for paying for it... and we honored him by taking pictures of a stuffie (that was the same animal as a nickname he used to go by on the net) all over the vacation... it was a BLAST. ...I have a digital camera so no need to send a camera- just the stuffie... please let me know when you send it, if you would like to have a CD/disk with the pictures on it, or prefer just the prints with the info on them or in the photo album with them.

user6001 02/21/2007 #

OMG!! Reading this swap made me squeal in delight and sign up even though I had banned myself from more swaps and until I start getting some more from others! I LOVE this idea. We are totally in and I can\'t wait to take our \"guest\" stuffie with us everywhere. Note to whoever gets my name: we don\'t need a camera- I can use digital and print or email them back! Did I say this was a great idea???

user6001 02/21/2007 #

p.s. I have a 3 year old and 1 year old- we go all over town every day (just to clarify there are kids involved ;>)

missnatalie 02/24/2007 #

Okay. Partners have been assigned. Please keep in contact with your swap partner and let them know what\'s going on, especially if you run into any complications getting it sent out on time or sending it back on time. I know things come up but please try to get them sent on time so this runs smoothly and nobody is left thinking their stuffie is lost in the world.

Have fun!

~ Natalie

Hi, If you have me as a partner I have a digital camera that I can take pictures with and email you, If you would like to save on the camera and postage.

:o)

Aerochik 02/24/2007 #

I look forward to doing this swap for my 8 month old daughter. She loves her little Blues Clues dog (she has a spare - the traveler), I think this is something she will really enjoy seeing when she is older!!! Thank You

Note: to my swap partner, Carseat Tourest - I have a digital camera that goes everywhere with us, even Wal-Mart (oops!) so no need to send a disposable, I can e-mail pics to you when complete!!! Thanks

Clayshaper 02/25/2007 #

Okay, My stuffie is on it\'s way to adventure and curiosity with it\'s host family! I\'m super-excited to \'meet\' our exchange stuffie too, and the kiddos have all sorts of ideas about where he or she aught to travel. (laughs) This is a great swap-game!! :)

1CrazyQuilter 02/28/2007 #

Hi Jane I mailed my package off on Monday the 26th.

lob 03/ 1/2007 #

Freddie the frog has arrived here on a sunny day in the desert.

marcia1977 03/ 1/2007 #

I bet Freddie the Frog is enjoying all that sun. He was getting bummed out because of all of the snow here... *grin

user6001 03/ 4/2007 #

Horsie has arrived from Clayshaper!! He was shown around the house quickly and jumped right into playing with the kids. (I uploaded what I thought was a small pic into the gallery- eek, not so small afterall...maybe I'll try again)

missnatalie 03/ 5/2007 #

Beary has arrived safe and sound and is currently meeting the rest of our family. :)

ElizabethObviously 03/ 6/2007 #

sadly wolfie from csilla has not arrived yet :( I am wondering if my spongebob has arrived to shopinc yet.

JaneR 03/ 6/2007 #

Hi CrazyQuilter, we received Kenny and Lenny last week, Kenny is having fun and we're taking good care of him. :-)

user6001 03/ 7/2007 #

I SWEAR I mailed it. I would expect it more for mail to get lost overseas but not domestic. Elizabeth, let's wait till Friday and if you still haven't received it I will mail you a new package. That stinks! Where did Wolfie go?????????

user6001 03/ 7/2007 #

Could we maybe extend our send back date to a bit longer? I know we haven't taken Horsie around to as much as we want to...And if Elizabeth needs a new package it will take another week for her to actually get it...

nc001 03/ 7/2007 #

If others want to extend the deadline then I don't mind either. I know I mailed my stuffies on the 23rd and I was told it would take 6-9 days for mine to arrive so they may not get there until late this week or even early next week!! I'll go with the general consensus!!

marcia1977 03/ 7/2007 #

Birdie has arrived to PA...

user6001 03/ 9/2007 #

Elizabeth, Any word on Wolfie??? I am going away for the weekend but if you still don't get him by Monday I'll mail you a new package on Monday. :>( I am so sorry!

Clayshaper 03/ 9/2007 #

I don't mind at ALL, if it takes a while for Horsie to get back to us... I am totally easy with that! You guys take your time, enjoy him/her, and just let the happiness happen. Stuffies are fun!

Clayshaper 03/ 9/2007 #

We had fun yesterday, getting Pictures of Bobby the doggie with many fun people and places in downtown Seattle. I was stuck going in and out of doctors and surgical centers (yay, I didn't need bigtime surgery! just quickie office/day surgery later!) and so he got to accompany us and give us a reason to drop by the Seattle wharf... people were delighted to 'pose' with Bobby, or suggest places he should pose that would show off the neat things down on the wharf... I suspect there will be way more pictures than would fit in an album... so we'll just have to send both! ;) He still hasn't had a chance to see our actual town, where we LIVE, in Everett- that's north of Seattle by about 30-40 miles. The kids had a BLAST, coming up with ideas on what he should do with them when they come visit this weekend, so More pics will be sure to follow. They're thinking this is the coolest swap ever. :)

1CrazyQuilter 03/10/2007 #

no friend yet, the kids look in the mail box everyday. they can't wait from him to get here. :O)

shopinc 03/10/2007 #

Hey 1CrazyQuilter, I sent out the stuffie on 28th :) You should receive it anytime soon! However, I forgot to include a journal! Sorry about that :(

I received elizabeth4510's stuffie a few days ago! Took only a few photos so far, as I was away for camp and couldn't bring him along (he would have gotten really dirty!). Will update again! :)

Aerochik 03/10/2007 #

Nina (and Ciaran) Sorry for the delay but Benny and Ben arrived about a week ago, they have been traveling here and there with us everyday. (We had a death in the family, so we had a few slow days(with little detail))

I think all of the kids have been see here or there with your dynamic duo and are really enjoying this, my little one of course gets the most coverage, since she can't tell me "no" yet!!lol..

If you don't mind I would like to let them travel with us another week or so, if your son isn't missing them too terribly, as we will be going on a camping trip (clean quarters) and stopping at places along the way..this will be the weekend of March 24-26.

Thanks Aerochik

Aerochik 03/11/2007 #

carseat tourist Can you tell me if Blue has arrived at your door step for her journey in WA? Thanks Aerochik

nc001 03/12/2007 #

Aerochik. No problem with an extended stay!! He's not missing them too much, once his own visitor arrived he seemed a lot happier about it!!

Nina..

user6001 03/12/2007 #

user6001 04/12/2007 #
