Description:

The September 2016 Fandom in a Bag swap is the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit (Middle Earth) fandom.

Step 1: Step 1: Please list in the comments your favorite characters, moments, movies, scenes, books or any other preference you may have.

Step 2: After partners are assigned, check to see what your partner likes. You can follow-up with a message if you need to know more. Then scrounge up, buy, and/or create items that fit in a bag. Your bag must contain at least 7 different types of items although more is certainly encouraged (PLEASE try to make it look full).

Some ideas of themed items: stickers, ATCs, postcards, toys/action figures, comics, note cards, pins/buttons, magnets, jewelry, trading cards, legal music CDs, charms, ornaments, books, bookmarks, address labels, postcards, plushies/stuffies, promo stills/autograph cards, fainfic, zines, etc.

More specific ideas: handdrawn map of Middle Earth, a "there and back again" travel journal, elf ears, Lorien leaf broach, banners for favorite towns, illustrations of your favorite parts of the books, drink coasters from the Prancing Pony, favorite recipes hobbits would like, a shiny gold ring, sword envelope openers, etc.

Be sure to check your partner's profile so you don't send anything he or she might be allergic to.

Step 3: Put the items in a ziplock-type bag. Size: 1 gallon (measures about 10 inches by 11 inches or 28cm by 26.5 cm). You can decorate the bag or incorporate the bag into something (mount it or sew something around it). If you want to make or buy a bag instead of using a ziplock plastic one, that's fine as well, but it should be at least a gallon in size. All items you gather or create should fit into the bag (if a couple are too big, that's fine).

Assemble your bags during the month of November and please send by the deadline (September 30).

Group rating rules apply. NO FLAKING ALLOWED! The great eye will see all flakers!

I've recently developed a deep love for dwarves in Middle Earth. I love:

  • Dwarves
  • The Fellowship as a whole
  • The 3 hunters in Two Towers
  • Legolas/Gimli
  • Samwise (he's a total Hufflepuff like me)
  • Faramir/Éowyn
  • Dwarves!!!!! (I have some original character dwarves I write in a whole AU 'verse I created; message me if you want their names for something; but of the ones we meet, I adore Gimli, Oin, Gloin, Kili, Fili, and pretty much everyone in the company in the Hobbit, including Bilbo of course) Seriously. Dwarves. Am totally in love with Middle Earth dwarf culture, their characteristics, their appearance, etc.
  • I have a friend whose cat is named Éowyn, so if you're in the mood to craft something cat-related, I'd love something I can give to her as a gift

I've got books and DVDs. I've got a lovely one ring, a Lorien broach, a cloak, and Thorin's key necklace from previous swaps. I've got maps of both Middle Earth and the map from the Hobbit from previous swaps as well (hanging on the walls of my home library).

I could probably copy what’s already been written! I’ve started really loving the relationships between various entities in Middle Earth. I just love Meridoc “ Merry” Brandybuck and Peregrin “Pippin” Took – just fun! And I love Bilbo and Gandalf, Bilbo and Smaug, and Bilbo and the Dwarves. Especially Bilbo and the Dwarves – how he almost can’t stand them at first, then he almost doesn’t want to do without them!

The elves are all wonderful, mysterious characters. I love Legolas. But I especially love Tauriel and her relationship with Kili. Speaking of Kili (whose actor I also love in Poldark!), I love the dwarves! I think of all the various races in Middle Earth, I could most find myself residing with the dwarves!

I don’t have a lot of stuff on Middle Earth. I have all six movies, along with a special on filming in New Zealand. I have the books. But I will love anything that comes along – maps, crafts, games, pictures, surprise me!
