DYK Oct. 12th is National Gumbo Day? Yep that is right!! It is one of those Wacky, Silly & Unique Holidays National Gumbo Day is always Oct. 12th. There is no research to t find the creator, or the origin of this day. The recipe dates back to 1802-1803, where it was first made in Louisiana. But it's a great opportunity, to enjoy a little Louisiana Cajun cooking. It is easy to participate in this special day. Simply eat some Gumbo! For those in the south, that is easy, as Gumbo is almost all restaurant menus. You can't walk into a restaurant in New Orleans, that does not offer it. For Northerners, it may take a little research, to find restaurants in your area that serve Gumbo. Gumbo is a thick stew, with chicken, beef, or seafood. It is heavily seasoned with cajun spices. And, it absolutely must contain Okra. Did You Know? Gumbo is the African word for Okra? Or, you may want to look a Gumbo recipe online, and make it yourself!
