Description:

get your crafting fool on!

REQUIREMENTS == let's get the sticky red tape outta the way 1st.

A. I will allow newbies, as we were all newbies to begin with and how else can you NOT be a newbie but to do a swap??? BUT do not join unless you are 115% committed to showing oldies what a dedicated newbie candobie.

B. North America only to minimize shipping costs but to allow my loony friends to participate in this Fool's Revelry.

C. No swappers with LOW or BAD scores. I will not set the bar high and my reason is this -- scores are subjective AND use this challenge to wow the socks off of your swap buddy. Do soemthing so awesome your score is raised and redeemed by your April Fool's fun.

D. PLEASE be serious about sending. It sucks to get "forgotten." I know. I have been the one waiting by my mailbox and in days gone by when my youngest was very young, I, too, forgot to get something out. Luckily for me they knew me and we could work it out. On here, it is a different environment and the honour system is taken very seriously. Flake and the Swap-Bot world knows about it.

NOW ----

You know that skein of funky yarn you bought ages ago because it was just too cool? Or that 1/2 yard of insanely unusual fabric you had to have for some yet to be determined something wild?

Time to drag it out & get your crafty self skewed. Take a walk on the wild side, drop some artistic creative "acid" into your designer's mind. Imagine something Alice or Arthur Dent would stumble across on their adventures.

Get foolish and throw practical concepts to the wild March winds. Combine colours, textures, concepts into a huge crafty version of a Mai Tei.

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() The RULES of our Odyssey ====

~1~ Handmade -- sewn, crocheted,knitted, felted

~2~ Do your very best to utilize those oddities you already have stashed in your sewing room/yarn basket/spare closet where you hide the skeletons. Seriously, we all have some funky purple fake fur, glittery fuzzy yarn, crazy fabric that never got used. If you do go a-shopping for supplies and/or embellishments keep your spending between $15 & $30. These are not to be cheap ass crappy crafts. Create a work of psychedelic art that you would swoon over should you be gifted it. I want you to have fits about actually putting it in a box to send far away. ;)

~3~ Really take the idea of April Fool's to heart design-wise. Mix it up. A pink fingerling yarn with a fuzzy lime green yarn morphs into a caterpillar scarf. Orange Polka dotted fabric lined with purple fake fur grows into a tote bag for the farmer's market. Every ounce of leftover yarn no matter the colour or weight melds to become the trippiest crib blanket.

~4~ It must be useful! Sorry no knick-knacks or non-wearable art to sit on a shelf. A. I have no shelves to house things. B. I want to really use what I get & I bet you do, too. That means -- hats, scarves, tote bags, purses, yoga mat bags, lap throws, fingerless gloves....etc etc USEABLE.

~5~ Once you sign up -- POST comments! Tell us you never wear hats so your swap buddy doesn't waste hours knitting the coolest chapeau that you will never wear. Drop the "hint" you really need some slippers or fingerless gloves so your buddy knows you will be thrilled by the hot pink and grey gloves she is itching to craft. Say you always bring your own bags to the grocery store so your buddy can jump for joy that the fish print fabric she has been storing for 5 years has finally found it's purpose in life.

~6~ HAVE FUN!!!!

if you stumble upon this blank swap bear with me..i wrote out a long awesome detailed "about" and the site ate it! so i am rewriting now.

user3051 02/28/2007 #

sigh

okie I have redone the "About" section now... come, join us........

user3051 02/28/2007 #

my comments --

I do use bags for my groceries, farmer's market et al.

I go to work & come home in the cold, dark. I nanny & my son & I leave our house like at 7 am & return sometimes 12 hours later. We use public transport and walk, so we are in the elements here along the coast. Being a mama, I have knitted him an awesome hat & scarf. I have scarves & would utilize a hat OR much more some fingerless gloves, as I am pushing a jogger. My hands are petite.

I am an avid knitter/crocheter and could be thrilled by stuff for my "craft" ie needle roll, sewing kit type "baggie" with stuff like measuring tape, stitch markers, cable holders, etc. or "basket" to carry my current project around in.

I can't handle scratchy or rough fabrics against my skin, but if you have some thing soft and silky weehaw!

I would wear slippers or socks amd my feet are about an 8, give or take.

I cook a lot and kooky kitchen towels, pot holders, hot pads, napkins, placemats, canisters, etc are good ideas. My kitchen happens to be highlighted by a PINK oven & sink.

I think I will also post all this in my profile.

can't wait to learn about YOU!

fairykiss 03/ 1/2007 #

This is so cool and the ideas are flowing!

I would like anything and everything. I'm 26 (27 first couple days of April) and people say I look (and act) 19ish.
I will use and love anything you sent that was made with care. I really don't know what else to say except be insane, I'll love it! My profile gives more info or contact me.

craftersbag 03/ 1/2007 #

I love purses and bags. I love wild crazy colors and I'll love whatever I get.

user3051 03/ 1/2007 #

so glad to see folks signing up! i think this is gonna be one of the most unusual crafting swaps evah! (okie, i am HOPING)

user5780 03/ 2/2007 #

I love purses and bags to carry groceries as well, I also love coin purses,I dont really wear hats much,......ahhh gloves! I have managed to lose all of mine so those would be neat as well ;D

user960 03/ 2/2007 #

Yay, happy to join up! I have some abandoned funky stuff sitting around that I hope will be put to good use here. :D

As for me...

*I live in Florida, so beachy things are great -- beach-friendly tote bags, sun hats, beach towel type things to lay out on and put my stuff on, cover-ups, even bathing suits (crochet or knit or sew me something? ;)). Conversely, that means I don't really get to wear a lot of winter-type hats or mittens, and we're about out of the cool season now, so anything warm and fuzzy is probably not going to get used for another year.

*It'd be cool to get something patchwork, hand-woven, hand-dyed, or hand-painted, although, of course, anything hand-made is super-cool! It'd be awesome if it were made primarily of natural materials, too, like cotton or wool rather than acrylic, but whatever you choose, I shall gladly accept. ;) (Just bear in mind that if it's a thing to wear or touch, I'm more likely to use it if it isn't some form of plastic. ;)) I like recycled things, too, and I love blue, green, purple, silver, and iridescents, plus any bright tropical-esque things, magicalesque things (especially dragons and other things with wings), "exotic" things (like India-themed, Chinese-themed, or Middle Eastern type stuff), and piratey things, too.

Whatever you send, I'd love to not have to baby it. ;) I used to have the energy and patience to baby my belongings, but lately I'd just like to be able to *use things ... and have them look cool, too, of course. ;D Dangly things that are likely to get pulled off, stuff that's likely to get caught on other things, sequins or hard bits that can't be sat on without being crushed, stuff that has to be cleaned delicately with a toothbrush, etc., will make me less likely to actually use whatever I get sent. Annoyingly enough, I like beads and fringe and danglies and sparklies -- I just don't want to worry about destroying them. ;)

*Other things I will most certainly use are clothing, especially summer tops, wrap-around stuff, and short skirts (I'm a size small or extra small, generally -- I'm a little half-Asian chick ;) -- and feel free to ask for my measurements. I'm wearing a hand-dyed swapped tank top right now, too! ;D), baskets, bowls, mugs or tea cups ... and I'd love a little jewelry box that won't be harmed (or spill its contents) by being knocked on the carpet by a kitty. ;) Also, the more functional, non-stuff-losing pockets and dividey things a bag has, the more likely I am to use it regularly ... ;D

Okay, I'm shutting up now. ;) Just figured too much info is better than too little ... ;D

Happy swapping!

user960 03/ 2/2007 #

Oh, and for reference, I don't know where those italics came from in my above comment. Oops. ;D A quirk of the asterisk overuse, I guess ... They weren't put in intentionally.

user6691 03/ 2/2007 #

Hey, I'm a newb & this is my first swap. :) My ex-MIL was telling be about the site last night, so I jumped in. This looks like a lot of fun, and I already have some ideas for this swap.

As for what I like: I love dark or rich colors, especially greens, blues and reds. I love soft, silky, and fluffy textures.

Recycled and vintage are great. Velvets, lace, silks, and indian-print cottons are some of my favorites.

Bags are always terrific. I get around on RollerBlades a good lot of the time, so styles I can wear on my back (like those draw-string hippie back packs) are a plus. Messenger-style bags are good for that, too.

I like necklaces and stuff for my hair. I don't really wear earrings or bracelets, though.

I'm short (5'3") and tend toward slim, so smaller is better in clothes. I tend to wear a lot of tank tops. I guess I'd describe my style of dress as gypsy-ish.

I'm looking forward to getting my feet wet with this!

user3051 03/ 2/2007 #

i am so happy everyone is getting into describing their likes/dislikes etc etc etc

it will really help --

i thought of a few things i forgot -- i would love a shawl, but not really a poncho

i enjoy seeing other folks get creative and show off their artistic sides

i tend to create my own patterns and knit or crochet or even sew free form, but do know how to follow a pattern and will (i actually take special orders thru my Riled Rags bizz) BUT i really wanted a swap to highlight going off the boards and allowing ourselves freedom to go where our minds and hands take us

HEE HEE guess you can tell i'm a writer

user6503 03/ 2/2007 #

shawl is cute or fingerless loves ;D ;D ;D

user5532 03/ 4/2007 #

I am looking forward to this swap and I cannont wait to get my partner's name. This is only my second swap on swap-bot and I look forward to making something for someone else. I make alot of the gifts that I give and I enjoy it so much. I love tote bags as I am always using them to carry around whatever project that I am currently working on. I also love to cook so things for my kitchen will be used also.

user960 03/ 6/2007 #

I'm excited about this swap -- woohoo! Glad to get my partner! For reference, I've just updated my profile with a butt-load of new information. Those with allergies to blather, beware. ;D

alwaysjoy 03/ 6/2007 #

I am so excited about this swap, I started my surprise last night and I think it will take me the whole time to get it done BUT I had to wait until I got my partner to know what to make. I think that my partner is going to love this!

user3051 03/ 7/2007 #

i am soo happy to see everyone excited and hopefully motivated! i am

PLEASE be sure to take pictures so we can have an aweseom gallery of Foolish Fun!

i am devoting my afternoon to matching my odds & ends to my buddy's profile.... hmmmmm

user960 03/ 9/2007 #

Just thought I'd say, I'm having fun searching my stash looking for things in the right colors, especially since I don't have to worry too hard about whether things will be "safe" to use together ... It's nice and liberating. I wonder if we'll get to do this again ... ;D

user960 03/13/2007 #

I'm about halfway done with my thingie! And someone who saw it today said, unprompted, that it was fun and funky ... Yay. ;) My mission is well on its way to success ... ;D

user3051 03/13/2007 #

ohhh my design is coming together so well...so fun and funky, but stylish, too

it was fun last nite to go rummaging for anything i had in a certain colour for one part of it!

tomorrow i need to search for supplies in another colour for the last section & then i will be "manufacturing" the completed item and ship I think by Monday

how is everyone else coming along?

user5532 03/14/2007 #

I am having fun with this one and I hope to have mine finished this week. It has been so much fun working on something wild and crazy

user3051 03/15/2007 #

i sent out a reminder e-mail and i have been reciveing back confirms about shipping dates etc.

as this is my 1st PUBLIC swap on here i really want to do everything to ensure it is 100% successful. If i do not get a reply e-mail from you I will write you thru Swap-Bot. If there are any no replies by the ship date I will have to assume that crafter is NOT participating & will notify folks about the no-send. let's hope it doesn't coem to that ;)

user960 03/16/2007 #

Does posting updates here count as a reply? ;)

E11enT 03/16/2007 #

Kate, your April Fools Day gift is enroute! I hope you like it.

user3051 03/17/2007 #

JC -- yep it counts! I am just trying to be sure that everyone sends and if not to know in time if i need to "angel" something

fairykiss 03/18/2007 #

user5532 03/19/2007 #

Joy yours is on the way today. I hope that you like it.

user960 03/19/2007 #

I'm waiting for my swap partner to re-fill in her address after moving, so I can send! Eep! ;)

user3051 03/19/2007 #

JC -- if i don't hear back from her soon I will let you know who to send to in lieu

everyone else -- sound slike stuff is on it's way to it's intended buddies

Fairy -- yeah, i am with you on that -- mine is still coming together as i want it to be awesome!

I hope everyone got my e-mail about the myspace group to post pics once the swaps are received. I really want to see these! I added the link to this swap above.

user5532 03/19/2007 #

I posted a picture of the item I sent in the gallery of this swap.

alwaysjoy 03/22/2007 #

I mailed mine to fairykiss a few days ago, I am hoping that by now she has it and is loving it, my husband was telling me not to give it away...

fairykiss 03/22/2007 #

Nothing yet, but I will let you know when it shows up!

don't worry: it seems like the post office here runs on their own time!!

user6691 03/23/2007 #

Ellen, yours is in the mail. :)

user3051 03/24/2007 #

OOgie'sMama!! can i just say that is the coolest orange bag evah!!! BigSissy appropriated some of the pins and I gave Oy the pirate stash for his fun, as he is currently smack dab in the middle of a Peter Pan/Hook addiction. I can guarantee your bag is gonna get a LOT of use. What sort of fibre is it?

Artful Dodger yours will be in the mail Monday (little boy hasn't been feeling well enough for me to drag him to the PO)

alwaysjoy 03/26/2007 #

Kate, Like it? I love it... You will be getting a great big heart for such a fun bag!

user5532 03/26/2007 #

Joy I am glad that you liked it. I was hoping that you would like it. I hope that you could use it. Ellen which Kate were you meaning?

craftersbag 03/27/2007 #

I haven't heard anything from my partner yet or the person I sent too I hope they like it.

fairykiss 03/27/2007 #

Joy, thank you so much! I have pictures up on flickr.

user6069 03/28/2007 #

Serienova, Hope yours gets there soon. All I can say is I hope you like COLOR!!!

user960 03/29/2007 #

Craftersbag, yours is in the mail and has been for a little, so let me know when it gets there. ;D

E11enT 03/31/2007 #

My partner is Kate in Columbus, Oh. Haven't heard that she's received it yet - Kate it's coming.

I'm still waiting, too but I see my partner, Artful Dodger has sent it on it's way. Takes time to Canada.

Happy April Fools everyone!

user6670 04/ 5/2007 #

Ellen,

I did get it. A gourgous scarf, that my girl is trying to usurp. And the butterfly pin, is on my bag, I love all the different blue beads.

E11enT 04/ 5/2007 #

ArtfulDodger, Lara, got the funky cool bag today. Nice job. The litle beaded necklace inside is lovely. Thanks so much.

user6691 04/ 5/2007 #
