Description:

For this swap we will be swapping quilting squares!

I do hope there are enough people that join the swap so that we can have 6 partners. If not, no big deal - I will just have to keep hosting until we have enough squares (42) for the whole quilt!

The finished quilt size is 50" X 63 1/2" - of course you can always make it bigger by creating more squares on your own if you want.

The tutorial is free and can be found at: https://quiltingtutorials.com/tutorial/the-adorable-i-spy-jar-quilt

It is a tutorial by Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company. It is a 12 minute video - very cute but easy quilt! It looks like it would be scrap friendly which is why I am choosing it for this swap!

If you get your square and it meets requirements please rate a 5. Hearts, as always, are at your discretion. Please no quilt police - we all try to do our best and I really want these swaps to be inviting and not stressful. However, with that in mind I do understand that measurements are super important with quilting...so if it is way off please give the swapper the chance to re-do the square for the full 5. If it is just a tad off (like 1/8") I am sure we can maneuver it into the quilt just fine.

Color Rules: Solid white background, solid gray jar lids. No rules as to the prints for the jars except they have to be prints (no solids for jars) - this is meant to be scrappy.

I will email all swappers with the written instructions if you prefer them over the video. In the written instructions you will go through step 4 - which finishes a block at 4 1/2" X 5 1/2" - PINT jars. Do not add the sashing. This will be done by you when you are putting your final quilt together.

Let's have fun with this!

Please ask any questions below and I will answer them as quick as possible. Private message me for faster responses.

Rating of 4.88 or higher required. Any recent 1s or 3s please message me first. Newbies message me first (after you have filled out your profile). USA only.

FUTURE SWAPS: I will keep hosting these swaps every month until we have 42 squares!

Could you clarify 2 things. The video has quarts and pints blocks. Which one are you expecting for a block.

  1. You’re expecting the sashing on each side of the jar and in black? Or no sashing and we all add our own ? Because you mentioned the quilt will be scrappy. I gather we add sashing to each block and make it work together.

@AZmom875

Great questions! 1. pint jars (smaller ones) 2. No sashing to be added for the swap. You are responsible for adding your own sashing when you turn your blocks in to a quilt. Yes, this is so you can make it look more cohesive depending on what you get. 3. I will add a few rules above so it will work together better. I see your issues I think - lets do solid white background, solid gray lids, any fabric of your choosing for the actual jars. 4. I actually have the instructions for this pattern written and I will email to all of the swappers that sign up for those that prefer written vs. video. It is a free pattern anyway provided by MSQ company/Jenny Doan.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or thoughts. This is my first time hosting a quilt square swap so I am open for thoughts and suggestions!

Ok I read it all. So one more thing. Your rules say white backgrounds, which I gather you mean we are using white on the what is called a snowball corner or snowball block and not the black she used in the video. Wise choice as blacks can vary so much. I do understand the grey lid so no questions there.

Great job on clarifying. I would love an emailed set of rules.

@Azmom875 yes, the white will actually replace the entire area that she has black. I have an example which I will replace the swap picture with so you can see. You will only use 3 total fabrics for your block - the white background, the gray jar lid, and whatever print you choose for the jar - of course you can do whatever you want with your actual quilt as far as borders, sashing, and such goes. Take a look at the picture and let me know if you have more questions.

@Azmom875 It won't allow me to change the picture for whatever reason - I will email you the photos of the white example now in your personal email.

For all other joiners know that I will email you both photos and written instructions when you sign up.

I got the emails and thank you.

Hi! I am hoping to join this swap. I just wanted to check before I do that it's OK I haven't participated in any swaps in ages (and very few on swapbot). Please let me know if that's a concern before I sign up. I can give you my word I'll follow through, but I totally understand if you prefer I have more swapbot swaps under my belt before I join this one. :)

Thanks!

@voz yes, I will take you! Although you have only done a few they are all positive reviews with no negatives. Also, you have a well filled out profile. So you do in fact meet the requirements to do the swap. As soon as you sign up I will email you the written instructions that you can use alongside the video.
