I own a tiny(smaller than a quarter), hand-carved wooden horse that my late Grandma Cook passed down to me!

My grandma died right before my 17th birthday in 2015. She had a pair of earrings that were her favorite. They were real diamonds. That Christmas (she passed in October), my mom and grandpa (who recently passed away last July) made the earrings into pendants for necklaces for me and my sister. My mom keeps them with her jewelry because of how special it is. So that is one of the most precious things I own.

It is a Bible which belonged to my grandfather. He passed away in 1991, and we had donated a box of his things to the Methodist church, which is across the street from me. They closed their doors in 2007, and when they were cleaning out everything they ran across the bible with his name in it. Knowing it was my grandfather's, someone brought it back to me. I also have an old book of hymns that he collected in Ilocano. That is so nice.

For the last few months I have been an English teacher in a small country in Asia. I had to leave quickly due to COVID-19 pandemic and ceasing flights. My heart was absolutely broken. But as I sit at the desk in my quarantine hotel, I can't help but always see the GIANT Hello Kitty my new friends sent me home with. It was so inconvenient to lug through the airport but I have no regrets. Embroidered onto it is a message that says "love you always". It's now one of the most sacred things I own.

My partner's aunt gave me a small good luck charm from China when she came back from visiting a year or so ago. I have a bad family background and my parents and relatives never gave me anything without expecting something in return, so receiving that souvenir from her made me feel welcomed and accepted in a new family. It's very precious to me!

The most precious thing that I own would be my wedding ring. Every time that I look at it, it reminds me of my wonderful husband. It makes me feel as if he is always right there with me guiding and encouraging me.

I have an old dime from the 1800s that my father gave me. His father found it while working in the fields in Arkansas in the first half of the 20th century. It's really special knowing my grandpa passed it down and now it's with me.

I have a bear my gran bought me when I was little for Β£1.00, his name is Honey Bear. He is the most generic, simple looking teddy. He had an arm stitched on backwards because when I was younger my brother ripped him, and my mum just needed to get the arm on as quick as possible! For a few years he was in the attic, till last Christmas my mum at already spent money in gifts that weren't things i could physically open (Hairdresser appointment and concert tickets I'd already knew about) So she had to think of something. On Christmas Day I opened a box and seen a bear and wondered why she'd thought to buy me a random teddy because she knows me well enough to know I don't keep teddies or anything. But I realised what it was, she had cleaner, re stuffed and re stitched honey bear and wrapped him up for christmas, I cried for about an hour and now he sits in my room and sometimes in bed!

my grandfather bought me The Night Before Christmas for my first Christmas in 1976. He wrote a little note on the inside cover. I read it every year and cry. Christmas was his favorite holiday so I have a hard time every year at Christmas. I have a hard time getting in the spirit but manage to for my kids.

From my father's family: My most special possession is a small collection of pecan shells. That sounds strange but, My Great-grandfather liked to whittle. He whittled each pecan shell into tiny baskets that are highly decorated. My favorite one is about the size of my thumb and each side has a cross with Easter flowers carved into it. He passed away when I was so young that all of my memories of him is sitting at his feet playing as he whittled. Another one that is so cute is an acorn (about 3/8 inch tall) that he whittled into the head of a monkey. My Aunt recently gave me a small little boy's outfit that is completely hand sewn. It has a tag attached to it saying "John Jr.'s dedication" It was made by my Great-grandmother for my father's dedication. I guess both of them liked making really tiny things. From my Mother's family: I have the very last quilt my Grandmother ever made. It's all hand pieced and hand quilted. Grandma never had a sewing machine. I have another quilt she made me when I was 12. I used it to pieces, literally. My mother made all my clothes and she would send the scraps to Grandma. Every piece in that quilt was from something Mama made for me. When I look at it I can remember every dress or outfit and just what it looked like.

My husband and I are Catholic. We have a second class relics of Blessed Miguel Pro.. (Second class relics are objects which the saint used or wore in their lifetime; our relic is a tiny piece of cloth from clothes which Fr. Pro wore.) Father Pro was priest in Mexico during the Cristero era (1920s), at a time when being a priest in Mexico was illegal. He lived an ordinary yet extraordinary life, then was martyred. I lived in Mexico for about 23 years, and the hubs and I have visited the church where Fr. Pro was buried. I feel very fortunate to have this relic, which reminds us of heroic virtue. It, and the movie For Greater Glory (which is about the Cristero times) always remind me to be grateful for the freedom to practice my faith.

I have this really old fountain pen/mechanical pencil set that my great grandmother had when she used to write letters. I do not use them because I do not want to break them, but when I write letters, I often will open up the box and keep it open while I am writing.
