Description:

Years ago I saw a challenge on Craftster that tickled my fancy: buy a piece of artwork from a thrift shop and work your magic on it to make it fabulous. The rules are pretty much what I just said in the last sentence. Flake and die. There will be a nice long window so that you have time to find your piece and put some effort into it. One more rule: you MUST take a good photo of your before and after piece to post in the forum a couple weeks after the swap ends and your partner has received their new artwork (or email to me and I'll post it for you...but we all get to see what everyone else comes up with so don't be shy!).

This swap is open to all members of the G.A.S.P. so I very strongly suggest that you wait until partners have been assigned before choosing the artwork you want to alter. A small piece of art that can fit into a flat rate envelope will cost about $13 to mail internationally through the U.S. Postal System, whereas anything much larger than that will cost closer to $30-$40 to ship so please take postage to your partner's country into consideration! There is no size limit to this project so do be aware that you may alter a huge sofa-sized painting and get a 8x10 in return. Size doesn't matter, right? Good. Have fun!

For some inspiration, check out the amazing virtual exhibit at the Wurst Gallery by clicking here - be sure and mouse-over each artist's original painting to see the finished work!

Does it have to be a painting? I noticed a sculpture done in the craftster challenge.

This is one of the reasons I love SB so much! Discovering new things like The Wurst. That is so awesome!!! Thanks for sharing! I'm putting this one on my watchlist :)

Can we do something like the velvet painting into a tote. Though I was thinking of more alterations/embellishments. But I always like the idea of functional art.

on my watchlist till I clean my plate!

Sorry I've been MIA, guys. I hate sounding like a dictator or stifling anyone's creativity, but I think for this one I'd like to keep it a painting or print or something like that you can hang on a wall. We're going to be doing this challenge in the group very soon where you find something neat and send it to your send-to partner for them to alter and send to THEIR send-to partner and a sculpture or doing a velvet painting tote and that kind of stuff would be perfect for that. I hope this swap still sounds fun for you guys!

Oky doky! I thought I'd do a print/painting anyway, but wanted to ask just in case.

Oh, and for my partner, choose what you want, but I'd like to mention that I enjoy small art the most. So you don't need to feel guilty about not selecting that sofa-sized painting! Go ahead and save on shipping with a 4x6 if you want...though that might impose a whole different type of challenge with the smaller scale.

GASP! I wish I'd seen this earlier :(

I found the print I want to alter today and I'm SO excited!

P.S. Penny - I'll private swap this with you if you want!
