Description:

Well first off I am really excited to be able to do this swap with all of you! I've been thinking about having junk journal swaps for a long time but I just wasn't sure how to start or if I would be able to find anyone else who wanted to swap with me. Yet here we are!!

I want to say that because this is the first time I am open to suggestions and comments. Feel free to write in the announcments as wel. Everyone is an officer so I think you are all able to send group messages too. This will make communicating a bit easier hopefully.

For this swap we will put our books togther. This includes the front/back covers and a title page (just like in a novel) Feel free to also make a "forward" page. This is a type of introduction page where you can write a little bit about yourself. This is not mandatory but it can offer some inspiration for your partner. You can create the book base in whatever theme you like!! Please put on the back bottom righthand corner your name, swapbot name, date you started the junk journal and your address.

I think we all agreed that we don't need to hurry and rush to get these books done and moved. The most important thing is to enjoy the process of creating. Take your time!!

Pinterest and You Tube are full of ideas. I picked out this one as a starting point for us. This tutorial you can view at Megjournals.

Megjournals

Because this is our first swap let's not make ours so bulky. Include a minimum of 10 blank pages. (front/back cover, titlepage are separate and are not included in the 10) The size should be no smaller than a regular size postcard. NOT TOO BIG NOT TOO SMALL. Bind the pages with some type of thread or embroidery thread like Meg uses. Make sure it's sturdy.

Remember that postage will be a little more expensive.

So to recap;

We are sending each other the book base including a front and back cover with a title page . Outside of this base you should have 10 blank pages. Together these pages should be bound together forming the basis for our Junk Journals!

The "forward" page is optional.

Once you've received your partner's journal wait until the next swap is set up before you start to work in it. I'm not sure yet if we will have a specific theme or not.

Remember to take good care of the journal that is sent to you. Treat it well and don't lose it. Give it a special place so you will remember where it is!

Remember to add your name and the name of this swap somewhere on or in the envelope.

Well here we go!! Let's give it a try!! Happy creating!

Will this be a travelling JJ? So it will return to the first creator in the end?

Does it have to be a hardcover journal or can we make the cover however we want? Can we decorate the cover or should that be left to a later swap?

For the blank pages, is it 10 sheets that we will fold in half (so ~20 pages in the journal, 40 if you count front and back individually)? Also how blank do they need to be, I assume coffee/tea died paper and craft paper is fine, but how about pages with text/images already on them such as old book/magazine pages?

In general: Are there any strict rules on the journal other than it needs to be at least A6/postcard size, shall have a cover, a title page, (optional forward page) and 10 blank pages?

WanderingStar 10/10/2021 #

@Foxears I hope the answer to your question is yes!! That way everyone will have the oppurtunity to let their own creative juices flow, so to speak... soft fabric cover or a flexible one.. or a sturdy one... 9r even faux leather one perhaps!! As for the pages... hehehe i read: 10 blank pages.. so at least, 10 pages suitable to decorate for any swap partners.. but I also often include pages w beautiful images, just because it makes me happy. Would it be handy to agree on a max weight?¿

Petaltea 10/11/2021 #

However you want to decorate the cover and bsck is up to you! Everything is allowed.

I mean 10 blank pages to leave for your partner to decorate. it can be drawing, adding embellishments, ink, stempels, stamps, collages .. anything. I like the idea of just adding pretty paper in between!! Great idea! As far as weight…. this is where it gets tricky.

The more rounds the heavier it gets. I feel like we should maybe decide on a weight but I don’t want to limit anyone in their creativity. On the other hand it might be necessary. With this kind of swap postage will be more expensive. I am willing to go all rounds but I can’t force anyone to do the same. If we spread out the swaps over a period of 6 monthd is that ok? I’d like as many as possible to join and hang in there for the long run. What about weight? What should we decide? How many months should we do? One page per swap or 2 pages per swap? Once every two months swap the journals or is that too long?

This will be a traveling journal!

annanymark 10/14/2021 #

This sounds great! But I do have a question. When making my journal, should I leave room for more papers (for the next one to put in it)? Or is 10 pages the total amount after the journal has been travelling?

Petaltea 10/14/2021 #

Let’s try first just with 10. We need to get the glitches out first. What do you think about the weight. Should we put a minimum/maximum them?

annanymark 10/14/2021 #

Sounds great! For me, it’s ok not to decide the weight. When joining the swap, we know that it will be a heavier letter to send…

Petaltea 10/14/2021 #

yes ok then!

Foxears 10/20/2021 #

I just finished the base of my journal, have yet to do the title page and so, but the structure is done. Had a lot of fun trying out a new binding method! It is around 100g at the moment. How is it going for all of you?

annanymark 10/21/2021 #

Great job @foxears I have no time this week, but will do mine next week, when my kids are with their father. I do have a pile of papers/envelopes/others that I think would work out in the journal… Looking forward to start making it!!

LinSoles 10/30/2021 #

I am a little uncertain. So as I understand it and please let me know if i interpret it wrongly.
We create a outside cover and then add a page for info/title.
Then we add 5 pages which when folded results in 10 pages to decorate?
I read bits about extra pages?
And will this means that this book would actually be like a signature? to add to a bigger journal once we have it back? Or do we create more than one signature in this rounds book?

annanymark 10/31/2021 #

I think we’re just doing one signature in our journals this first swap. So it will be a cover, a front page, a signature with 10 pages (in total, so 5 before folding them). A small and thin junk journal to start with 😀

Next swap will be about decorating, not adding more signatures.

Am I right? Please correct me if not.

Petaltea 11/ 7/2021 #

@LinSoles I’ve received your message. It’s just as @annanymark says. This will be a journal book on it’s own. You can use 5 pages and then fold them These pages are not including the cover, title page and back.

I used different sheets of paper, even reused an old envelope as a page. Next round we will decorate.

@Foxears mine was also around that weight.

I hope this helps?
