We had so much fun making altered whimsey jars a few months ago! I got a request to do a Christmas Whimsey Jar Swap, so here we go... You will be making a Christmas-themed altered whimsey jar for your partner. What is an altered whimsey jar? Itโs a form of Folk Art consisting of a small clear jar or container filled with handmade, vintage, useful, and fun items. Find a jar โpreferably plasticโ, it will be lighter for mailing and wonโt break easily. Use one that is around 4 inches tall, with a lid, and has a wide mouth so that it will be easy to put in your items. The dollar store should have some good jar or container choices. You could also reuse a clear plastic food jar. Decorate the lid. Paint it or cover it with paper, stickers, sparkles, or anything you like. Ribbon and lace are also nice additions! Fill the jar with small fun and useful and quirky items. Adding some items from their profile would be nice but not required. If you sign up please make sure your profile lists your favorite themes, colors, hobbies, and what you collect. Your jar can be decorated with Christmas decorations but all of your items in the jar do not have to be Christmas-themed. To keep the Christmas theme going you could even gift wrap some of the items! Some whimsy jar ideas: A pretty marble, rock, shell or stone; A stretched penny; A key chain; A small spool of thread; An Inchie, a handmade tag, or a mini ATC; Pretty beads; A miniature car, doll or animal; A friendship bracelet; Vintage stamps; A few new stamps; A roll of washi; Scrabble tiles; A vintage clothes pin; A few sticker flakes; A thimble; A gum ball machine prize; A crochet dollie; A micro book; Small fabric sample; A fortune from a fortune cookie; A bottle cap; A rolled up quote; A charm; A beaded bracelet; An altered puzzle piece; A plastic ring; Please no candy or teas unless your partner says they would like some. Include a short note to your partner. Try to fill the jar completely! Have fun! Please feel free to ask questions below! |
