Do you have a collection of interesting or attractive free/promotional/advertisement postcards? Or maybe you've seen a kiosk of them and wondered what you might do with them?

Here's a chance to share these often-underappreciated works of art!

You'll have three partners and mail one postcard to each. No envelopes, please. No purchased or hand-made postcards. This is an international swap.

Newbies welcome with full profiles. All others must have no recent or excessive 1s or 3s. I will exclude anyone who seems questionable. This is my first time hosting! Let's make this fun! :D

I recommend a heart if your partner chooses a postcard well-suited to your style or interests or if they add a particularly creative or warm note.

UPDATE: If you like this swap, there's another coming up just after it! Please sign up for Advert Cards, Much hosted by @knellershappycampers http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/40463

I noticed you said no handmade postcards... Does it count as handmade if we turn the ad-card into a postcard on the back?

amymc 06/25/2009 #

@robotlove Thanks for signing up!

If you mean covering the writing on the back so you can add postage and a note, while leaving the art on the front intact, then, yes, that's fine!

I have few I might do that with, myself.

Yep. That was what I meant. =) Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Cool. Everyone always says no ad cards for swaps, which I am not sure why. I have some really cool ones my son just brought back from Europe. Plus some from around here. I always want to send them, but nobody ever wants you to. Maybe you can do a series of these. Maybe one a month. Everyone always has these ad cards but can't mail them off usually.

@DebP

That's exactly what inspired me to host this! Ad postcards really do seem under-appreciated, yet they're often more interesting than the ones you can buy.

I don't know if I can make the commitment to do one of these every month, but you're certainly welcome to "steal" the idea and host it yourself! :)

Thanks for the PM Amy. My ad card swap now starts up the day yours ends. :o) Sorry about not looking first.

i'm not really clear on what an ad postcard is. i did a google search and all i came up with was vintage ad cards. maybe a dumb question but...are there ad cards still being produced and if so, where do i find them?

amymc 07/ 5/2009 #

@tallysoma

An ad postcard is any postcard that you get for free that promotes a product, service, or cause. Some restaurants and bars will have a display stand with many different cards. Art galleries will also give them away to promote shows. Dance clubs, too. Sometimes they are fully printed on the front and back, in which case you will need to cover the printing on the back so you can re-use them.

Yeaaaah! We got 25 people! Your partners are assigned! :D
