For this swap you will send 2 ATCs in the theme and 1 ATC of any other style or theme of your choice. So 2 ATCs in the theme I'll describe below and 1 ATC of "artist's choice" so we can see some other style of your work. 3 ATCs to 2 Partners so 6 ATCs total for this swap.

Ephemera From One Day Theme Description: For each ATC you can pick different days if you want, or if you gather a lot of stuff from one day you could use that for all your ATCs if you choose.

Pick a day. During that day you will watch for paper ephemera that you come across that can be used to make an ATC. Think typical things like newspaper clippings from that day, something you got in the mail that day (from junk mail or a cancelled postage stamp or whatever), receipts from purchases, ticket stubs, food labels from stuff you ate that day or any other paper thing that crossed your path that day. You could even use part of a "to do" list or a doodle or a ntoe you jotted down that day. How about a quote you read that day that you liked? Use those materials to make an ATC with. You may combine media if you want, such as using paint, ink, or adding embellishments.

The style of your ATC is up to you. Here are a couple of different suggestions.

  1. Make an ATC that is pretty or artsy in some way with the materials you find. You could use images that we'd never know were actually from a food label or a piece of junk mail because they are attractive in some way.

AND/OR

  1. Make an ATC that tells a story of your day. In some fashion collage the items so when we look at it we can tell what you did that day. Or maybe we can't quite tell all that you did of course but we can see maybe what you ate or drank or a place you went or something like that.

You may mix media to make it look different than just collage. Have you seen the journals of Sabrina Ward Harrison?

Or perhaps you could try the style of Kurt Schwitters?

AND/OR

  1. Come up with some other interesting idea of your own to do with the ephemera you collected that day!

Please don't just glue stuff onto a card. Make it look interesting or artsy and with good composition and as if you put some thought into choosing the elements and arranging them. It should look interesting enough that it deserves to be appreciated and looked at and kept by the receiver in their ATC collection.

Have fun with this challenge everyone!

I have assigned swap partners.

I let one newbie in who contacted me to say she had already made the ATCs and really wanted to participate: her member name is Carys. If she flakes we will rate a 1 and I will angel. Carys please don't make me regret making an exception for you!

Everyone else who signed up had a 4.9 or 5.0 rating.

Have fun everyone!

Alleycat your ATCs arrived. I read the letter before looking at the ATCs. When I read you used wallpaper and a paint chip I got a little worried of what they might look like. However my favorite is that one in which you used the papers to make a collage of flowers and grass growing outside. Absolutely wonderful!! I chuckled at the one with the "to do" list as it was a good artistic use and a creative idea of what to do with such lists. Thanks so much!

Christine, I thought about what I would do all day, if you've ever stripped wallpaper you know how tedious it is, so I was happy to have something creative to occupy my thoughts! Still when I sat down that evening I didn't know what would come out! I looked at everything I had collected, and the only thing that had color was the paint chip...So glad you liked the result...it struck me that I lead a very boring life at the moment!
