Deco description:

Decos are a lot like ATCs, but made into a mini book that is passed around by snail mail.

Each person who receives it decorates a page, adds their contact information, and passes it on. When it is full, the last person to receive it sends the deco to the person it was originally made for (address on the first page).

If you're familiar with Friendship Books, they're like that except decorated, with one person signing per page.

Oh what a cool idea! I really hope I get rated before the sign up date! I've completed 4 swaps so I should meet requirements very soon.

I'll watch til then!

I'd like to know more about a Deco book and a Friendship book. Sounds like a fun project. Is the project in the above pix with paper doll a sample?

Hi, Miss Jay! I think these links might explain it better than my above description:

The etiquette at the bottom is very important.

Wiki's FB entry

Flickr's amazing Deco stash

I think the major thing people new to FB/Deco swapping should know is this: A deco/FB is not something you keep, but sign and pass on. Usually it is passed on within a month.

When a deco is made for you (by yourself or another person), after it has been passed around the world and filled to the last page, it will be returned to you. (At least, it should be. That's why the etiquette part is important.)

It's really fun, seeing other people's creativity in person. Their contact information is there so they can receive pen pal or swapping inquiries. (That's where the abbreviations come in. "NPW" = New Pen pals Welcome, "NSW" = New Swappers Welcome, etc.)

When a person doesn't want to swap FBs/Decos any more (and it can seem like it's never ending, since there is a cycle to it), all you have to do is ask someone on the forums or a pen pal you know if they would like to take the last of your FBs/Decos.

PS Yes, the above image is a sample of what a deco can look like. They often have embellishments on the cover: brads, ribbon, glitter, etc. The image is whatever you want it to be.

Decos sometimes have themes, like "blue" and each person who signs has to make a blue page. If you prefer not to sign, you can just pass it on. Sometimes there is a "pass" page, where you can sign and date when you passed.

StephaniefromTN: This swap is coming up really fast, so if you don't meet the requirements, please don't worry. I'm sure there will be deco swaps in the future you can join. It seems FB/Deco swaps come up regularly on swap-bot.

If anyone needs Decos to get started or get an idea of what they are, PLMK and I can mail some to you.

A packet of decos is en route from the U.S. to my Canadian partner. Enjoy!

mintcondition 07/17/2009 #
