You will include in your alter

1 alter cloth in the colors associated with Ostara (Pastels)

2 a small offering for the alter (herbs & plants associated with Ostara celandine, cinquefoil, jasmine, rue, tansy, and violets may be burned; acorn, crocus, daffodil, dogwood, honesuckle, iris, lily, and strawberry may be decorations Remember if your partner is in OZ you can not send herbs so you might have to use incense or a candle in the shape of one of the herbs or plants associated with Ostara

3 an alter decoration this can be made of just about anything even an ATC in the colors of Ostara.

4 you will include a short letter or note about your personal journey.

5 You will include something "just because" for your partner.

6 You will put all of this into a small bag, box or other container. Nothing smaller than a 250 count matchbox (larger is great) This is a container so that it is a real traveling alter, it can be decorated but does not have to be.

Now for the fine print. Your package will include one each of the items listed above anything more is at your discretion. Anyone with a rating of less that a 4.5 will be banned from this swap.

Can we send stick incense instead of herbs? And where is OZ? QH

PhoenixLM 02/ 9/2010 #

Austrila (spelling) yes incense would work

quainthomesteader 02/11/2010 #

Oh, I'm so tickled, I'm going to crochet an altar cloth for this!

Ogma 02/11/2010 #

Can these items be store bought? Just want to make sure this would be okay with everyone as I'm not crafting right now. (A crocheted altar cloth sounds amazing, QH!)

Morgaine 02/12/2010 #

Is the box meant do be used as the alter itself? i.e. open the box, take out all the items, close it again, place the altercloth over it and place the items on it. Is that the idea? Just wanna make sure I get it right ;-)

quainthomesteader 02/13/2010 #

Yes, I'd like to know more about the box... does it need to be decorated?

Ogma 02/13/2010 #

Well, I'm just speculating here but she said "put all of this into a small bag, box or other container" so I'm thinking it would not have to be the actual altar (since it can be a bag). I think it's meant to just contain all the pieces so it can truly be a traveling altar.

Is everyone here okay with store bought items? If not, that's okay; I just want to know before I sign up.

Morgaine 02/14/2010 #

@Ogma I'm fine with store bought, and will most likely be bying some of the stuff myself. The swap does not say it has to handmade all of it or any of it as far as I can tell, so I think you are fine, as long as you buy nice stuff ;-)

Morgaine 02/14/2010 #

And yes, I saw the part about the bag afterwards as well, but I think I will still make my alter so the box itself can be used as an alter when covered with the cloth. If I can find the right box, I have something specific in mind ;-)

Morgaine 02/15/2010 #

Sorry, I need to drop from this swap due to a financial situation :-(

pandessa 02/15/2010 #

I can't wait! I also will buy some stuff but make alter cloth.

PhoenixLM 02/16/2010 #

Yes store bought is fine & the box itself can be an alter but my line of thought is it is just a container. Sorry guys for taking so long I was away for Valentines with very limited internet access.

PhoenixLM 02/16/2010 #

Also box does not have to be decorated it is more function than decorative..

quainthomesteader 02/18/2010 #

How does matchbox shrines for the 4 elements sound?

PhoenixLM 02/19/2010 #

quainthomesteader sounds awesome

quainthomesteader 03/ 2/2010 #

I just did my first match box shrine as a birthday gift for a friend this weekend, and boy did it take a bunch of time and thought! I don't think I'll be able to do four.... sorry!
