Description:

The ZOMBIE swap is a way to express your own thoughts and feelings on surviving the Zombie Wars (see Max Brooks' books, or similar zombie survival memorabilia, books, movies, etc).

Where were you the first time you saw a zombie? Is it too difficult to express into words? Perhaps you need a drawing, or perhaps you've crafted some memorabilia to honor your days as a survivor? Do you have an exciting on-the-scenes recording from when Zack burst through your apartment door during a podcast? Do you remember the day LiveJournal was flooded with reports of zombies everywhere? Have you seen the San Francisco zombies lurching through downtown?

You will send (at least) one personalized memento of the Zombie War to each of your swap partners. The memento may be hand made in whole or in part, and you can bend your creativity to this subject matter in many wonderful ways (yes, I think Zombie ATCs would be completely awesome!)

If it's a store bought item (within the $5-10 range), please include a personal letter to explain why it reminds you of your zombie survival days. If the item can be easily duplicated without loss of quality, you are welcome to send the same item to each partner.

Newbies are welcome to join this swap with a complete profile and after PMing the hostess first. You can do that by clicking the "Contact" link next to her name. The hostess is a newbie herself, and wants to be open to well-meaning newbies.

Angels are also very much welcome to volunteer. The swap host will not be able to angel everyone, so please consider volunteering if this swap gives you a lot of great ideas.

This is an international swap, since you can scale your memorabilia to match the postage cost. The zombies were everywhere.

Hee - I would love, love, love to play but I am maxed out and behind on swaps as it is. Feel free to tap me near the closing date, maybe I''ll have more time and can sign up just under the wire! Might be up for playing angel, too.

A couple years ago, there was a horde of zombies (including zombie Santas and one roadkill Easter Bunny) mingling with the annual Santarchy crowd here in A2... I will at least try to find photos of that jolly mayhem.

I don't know the book you are talking about-but now I want to go get it! I have a bit of a crush on Zombie movies, my favorites are old-Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, new-28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead. Also, I am working on a series of zombie ATCs that are portrait cards of famous zombies! So, I am already in a zombie frame of mind and would love to participate in this swap. My neighborhood is FULL of zombies...or maybe they're crackheads-at any rate, they certainly exhibit all of the signs of the walking dead. I have some great photographic and physical evidence too!

b: Brooks wrote the Zombie Survival Guide (so helpful during those critical days of the war, when every book on tactics had to be re-written!) and World War Z, which is an oral history of survivor accounts from the Zombie Wars, and which inspired me to create this swap, honoring the days when it looked, really looked, like humanity might be overwhelmed and wiped out by the walking dead.

Also, are you familiar with Give Me the Brain? It's a zombie card game made by Cheapass Games.

Hey, just an FYI: I changed the sign up date to tomorrow, for various reasons having to do with inviting a few friends via my blog (which is down right now, thanks Dreamhost), and because the "View All Swaps" page is really heavy with swaps that have sign-ups ending today. I'm hoping to game the system a little by ending sign ups tomorrow.

As an added bonus, it means I get to assign partners on Friday-- my BIRTHDAY! :D

An update: There is a member of this swap who has now been removed from swap-bot. The people who were supposed to send to her had not sent yet, and will be angeling to the people who were supposed to receive from her (sadly, this means they won't get ratings for that sending). All parties involved have been notified, but I wanted to post a note here, so if anyone reads the forums and was thinking "gee, isn't that person in my swap?" they would know it's been taken care of already.

Thanks, Mortaine (swap hostess)

PS: Be sure to search the "View All Swaps" this week-- I know there are at least TWO OTHER ZOMBIE SWAPS in sign-ups right now! COOL!

mortraine,

maybe a good idea for those who cant get a rating... the people they send to can at least leave a comment saying they received the package? :)

mortaine 08/27/2007 #

Venus: Yes, I hope they will comment back-- it would be nice, at least, to get that much.

venus 08/29/2007 #

oh yayyeee! i'll be sending mine out this friday! :)

venus 09/17/2007 #

done and done! :)

mortaine 09/17/2007 #

OK, Venus and Leiapico: only view this if you want to spoil your surprise.

I finished the dolls! They're... well, they're a little weird. And probably kind of silly looking. Certainly, they are not professional-quality zombie knitted dolls.

What they are, however, is kind of cute, in an "I'll eat your brains" kind of way.

They are also here

sent out to b. jordan and rumraisin! i really like how these turned out, i hope you like them too :D
