Description:

"It was sometime before I could see, the hot air escaping caused the candle to flicker, but as soon as my eyes became accustomed to the glimmer of light the interior of the chamber gradually loomed before me, with its strange and wonderful medley of extraordinary and beautiful objects heaped upon one another."

Ò€”from the Diary of archaeologist Howard Carter, Sunday, November 26, 1922

This swap is for one (1) wrapped mummy doll for one (1) partner.

You will make a corpse doll and wrap it like a mummy with small treasures inside the wrapping.

There are many possibilities on the making of the doll, you can sew it, sculpt it, carve it or upcycle a thrifted doll, just make sure your doll is at least 6 inches.
Wrap the doll, mummy style, with gauze or other fabric and place a minimum of 3 small items inside the wrapping.

The items can be such things as charms, amulets, antique buttons, pendants, antique coins etc. Just make sure it's something appropriate, it don't have to be Egyptian, but should not be plastic trinkets, new shiny coins (unless they have a special design etc.), big bulky items and so on.

This is not a profile specific swap, so participants can go ahead and start on their mummy doll right away.

The swap is open to all members of the Dark Victoriana group.
I will angel if necessary, but remember if you flake I WILL kick your butt!

If you have any questions or think I have forgotten something, please write here or send me a message, thank you :)

I have a question. So, we are placing the items inside the wrapping, right? Will our partner be unwrapping the mummy to discover the items?

pandessa 06/12/2010 #

I am SO excited about this one!

Lynn: yes inside the wrapping, like a makabre magic yarn ball :) So yes they will be unwrapping the mummy.
I know it might be a shame, if you put alot of work into your wrapping, so you should probably rather put a lot of work into the mummyfied doll inside :)

That is what I was going to do...I was going to make one of those No Sew dolls, I thought it would be perfect for this and I could do a good job of that, will that be ok...and then wrap it up in the gauze along with trinkets?

LadyBathory 06/23/2010 #

That sounds cool Naughtyelf :)

Ok, great! Now I am excited! I can mold faces and paint them and choose nice baubles and fabrics, but sewing? I will try to learn and get better but that is another craft to learn here later on...Yay! I am so excited about this swap! Thanks!

I think I have finally figured out what I am going to do for my little mummy.

After I create the head I'm going to wrap him in tea dyed cotton strips and have it adhere to the body permanently by soaking the darkened wrap in glue. After the mummy is completely finished and dried I will then wrap the trinkets within a loose discardable cover wrap that can be tossed when you recover your prizes. The mummy doll will be left in his wrapped splendor and all will be revealed. How does that sound? Would this make my swap partner happy?

*steals MzPatti's idea and runs away with it!
