Description:

The idea behind this swap is to help each other find new ideas for gift giving; obviously not just Christmas, but any gift-giving occasion. This an ultra-low-cost swap, but does require some creative thought and effort. It goes beyond suggesting ideas for gifts, and into ways to make unique and thoughtful presents yourself.

Each swapper will send, to each of their three partners, directions on how to make at least two kinds of gifts (send as many as you like beyond two, and it's fine to send the same things to all partners!) . Original is great, but the most important is that the directions be complete and easy to follow. It's okay to photocopy or print out something you've found elsewhere, but make sure you get 100% of the directions and information.

Everyone will end up with at least 6 (hopefully new) ideas.

Materials for the projects should be fairly easy to find and not require special equipment beyond cutting, gluing or sewing, unless you know your partner has the equipment or the skills required (e.g. knitting or woodworking).

The ubiquitous small print: Please sign up only if youÒ€ℒre sure you can send the items by the send date. Please don't sign up if you have a history of not following through on swaps. I'll have to remove anyone with more than one "no send" rating.

In brief, then: 3 partners (International) Min. 2 complete how-to directions to each, not requiring special skills or equipment, using fairly easy to find materials

Please spread the word - the more the merrier!

Please let me know if there are any questions! (This is my first attempt at organizing a swap!)

This sounds fun! I especially love any instructions for making easy things I can sew...But not really kids crafts. Love the swap, Lady Mel.

I'm so glad you joined! I understand about the kids crafts; but you know, I've had more fun the last couple of weeks, making the button bouquets from Kiddley.

I guess I'll have to look those 'Kiddley' up. Kid animal patterns would suit me, like the type at weewonderfuls.typepad.com (I have her pattern by the way, just fabulous.) I meant like kid-kids crafts, telling how to make a toilet paper roll santa. Stuff like that! ha I homeschool 2 kids and we do those type all the time. Off to search for my patterns now...

Oh, those kind of crafts! I'm right there with you! No, there shouldn't be anything like that in this swap - this is for directions for people to make gifts to give. For example (I won't use this for the swap because one of the ingredients is too hard to find) - solid bubble bath was a BIG hit as a gift for a bath-loving friend. The stuff she loves is about $6 a bath plus shipping, so I found a recipe and made some for both of us for a fraction of that price.

I got my list of people. I'll send mine out next week when we get home from vacation. Can't wait to see what I get! I love patterns I can sew simply (like pillow cases, bags, etc), embroidery patterns, jewelry or things like mixes (brownie, milk bath, etc...) Thanks!

Tomorrow is the mailing date, everyone! I'll be sending my envelopes at lunch today. Since there are only five people besides me in the swap, and I have access to the info., I'm sending my ideas to everyone. ContessaKris & imyorehuckleberry, you're not technically on my list of partners, so you should get four envelopes.

Rec'd wonderfully fun instructions from Jessica today. To make Lavendar Dream Tea, Shower Glow and Hazelnut Muesli mixes. Also instructions to cover light switch plates and make a balancing bird. Can't wait to try them! Thanks so much!

Sending mine out this week. We just got home late last night from vacation.

Okay, anyone who DIDN'T have my name want to swap? I miscalculated and printed an extra set. Just holler, first come first sent...

Mine are finally done and shipping tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. Just got back from vacation and I've been a scatterbrained homeschooling mother ever since (school started up again). eyeroll

user1938 09/15/2006 #

P.S. Thanks for Lady Mel. I rec'd your lovely instructions. I love them all and can't wait to try them!

I'm up for getting anyone's ideas! (Lexi (sp?), I got yours already!)

user1938 09/18/2006 #

Sorry, mine finally went out today. I've received from Lady Mel and Jessica. I guess I'm waiting on 2 more? Can't wait to receive them!

imyorehuckleberry 09/21/2006 #

Hello everyone! I am so sorry I am running terribly behind due to various reasons (none of which are really good) and I will be working on getting my end out today. ContessaKris- if you don't have my name (Angela Boehm) and still have an extra set I would love to get it. -Angie
