Hi all - question on card backings (I'm pretty new at ATCs). Are they the cards only (like 3 playing cards as is) or do you need to glue a background on them? Thanks for the help!

Playing cards will work well as a backing and it would be fine to send them in this swap. A member on here also told me backings are also called "canvases". I have also used foam for the backing in some of my swap. Most of the time I use hard paper for the backing but it can be anything that is used to hold the card together. I hope that answers questions, please ask if anyone has any more questions.

Thanks Xebby - looking forward to this swap!

In general, anything can be a backing for an ATC. I've seen them made on sheet metal, glass, plastic, canvas, fabric, wood, and varying thicknesses of paper and cardstock, watercolor paper, canvas paper. It's really only limited by either your creativity, or the rules (if any) of a particular swap.

In the big, wide world of ATCs, there is no thickness limit, either, but mostly here people make them thin enough to fit inside the standard card collector packets, sleeves or sheets.

I, personally don't require that of my partner(s) so go for the gusto! Think outside the box!

Some people are sticklers about archival qualities, but art does not necessarily have to be "forever" so many people use whatever materials that fit their artistic needs.

The only standard requirement for an ATC is that it's height and width measurements be 2.5" x 3.5" or 3.5" x 2.5", portrait vs landscape orientation. The sky can be the limit for every other aspect of the art.

You're welcome, I have been playing with them for a while now and love to think of the possibilities of this terrific little art form!

My swap packages are in the mail for susiqz and head in the clouds! Watch your mailboxes! :)

This was fun, and I'm so pleased with having been able to get it done and out so quickly.

Looks like I'm flaked on again! Normally I just let it slough off me but I was just over at the Swap-bot forum and I think I am exploding with Swap-bot frustration. I need to STOP reading that stuff over there!

Xebby, I'm annoyed that 1. baybebear76 snuck into this swap (I can see there was really nothing to alert you prior to the final sign up date, all the 1's started showing up just after.) and 2. her partners have sent to her! Damn, she's being rewarded for flakng and that burns me!

I really hope kellypuffs and mord fiddle enjoy their envies from me. I had fun putting them together!

Sorry, I'll go back to my regularly scheduled joy and happiness regarding Swap-bot, which is still filled with great people to swap with!

:) Joan

My apologies, my previous note was left in a moment of weakness and was not directed at Dalwil (who has great communication BTW). :) Joan
