alt text

In this light-hearted swap, participants are asked to write an introductory-letter to their partner from the perspective of one of their favorite fiction-book characters.

Letters should contain (but are certainly not limited to) all of the basics you might normally include in an introductory pen-pal letter.

Here are some introductory topics to get your creative juices flowing:

  • ****Your name...**** (Alice? Tom Sawyer? Mowgli? Mary Lennox? Hazel?)

  • ****A brief bio...**** (Tell us how you're a prophetic rabbit from the Sandleford warren. Perhaps you are obsessed with catching a great white whale. Maybe you bring books to life by reading them aloud.)

  • ****Where you live...**** (How does it look? What makes your cottage/burrow/castle/space colony unique?)

  • ****Your hobbies...**** (Do you play Quidditch? Are you a count who enjoys terrorizing orphans?)

  • ****Your goals...**** (Destroy the One Ring? Escape the clutches of the Red Queen?)

Let your creativity and imagination shine-through in your letters. Swappers are encouraged to be inspired, thoughtful, and witty. Feel free to add personality to your character that may not be immediately evident in the books Γ’β‚¬β€œ but please try to remain loyal to your character's history, home, and overall morals and motivations.

Make sure your letter gives the reader some colorful, creative, and informative insight into the life of your favorite fiction-book character.

Books may be famous or obscure. From Classic Literature to your favorite cheesy fantasy series Γ’β‚¬β€œ take your pick! And yes, you can write from the perspective of a favorite animal character, too!

Character Letters should be a ****minimum of TWO A4 pages****. Swappers are certainly welcome (and encouraged) to go longer, though! These may be hand-written or typed. Send something to your partner that you would be happy to receive.

Along with your letter, be sure to include a small note with the name of the swap, your username, and the title of the book from which your character is taken.

If you have any concerns about spoilers to a book or series you are reading, leave a comment below so your partner will know. :)

****Newbies with well-filled profiles are welcome.**** Rated swappers should have a 4.8 or higher. No recent no-sends or unexplained 1's, please. I will be checking thoroughly, and will remove any questionable swappers before assigning partners.

You will have 3 weeks from the last sign-up day to complete this swap. Please be timely - and if you are going to be late for some reason, be polite and contact your partner.

I will angel this swap if need-be. If you have any questions/concerns/comments, let me know!

great idea!

This is probably a stupid question, but what are A4 pages? I haven't done much with letter writing, but this swap sounds cool and want to make sure I send a long enough letter.

Reallusionista 10/ 1/2010 #

marvelous!!! I enjoy role-play :)

princesslawyerpants 10/ 3/2010 #

@knitandlitgirl I had to look it up myself. An A4 page is a normal, office-sized copy or computer paper (8.5"x11"). So if you were going to handwrite this letter on smaller stationary, I guess you would just scale up based on the size of your paper. @colormetoni please correct me if I am wrong.) If my character was really annoying, I would totally send this letter on 36 post-it notes. :) Awesome swap idea!

@princesslawyerpants - Thank you for looking it up! :) I wasn't online for a few days, so I apologize for not responding. headdesk

You are correct, A4 is a normal office-sized sheet of printer-paper.

Hooray!

knitandlitgirl 10/ 4/2010 #

Thanks. I wanted to make sure I got the right kind of paper.

Love the idea for this swap!

My favourite novel is Lolita soooo not sure how comfortable I'd be writing from the perspective of any of the characters from that novel, haha, but if I can think of another one I'm going to join! (I don't read much fiction)

Okie dokie, book lovers... Partners are assigned. :)

Have fun!!
