Description:

remember in the olden days when kids would get a yarn ball filled with small toys and candies...what fun!! well i am not that old but my grandma would tell me about those wonderful balls of yarn and the items inside.

you will take one skein of fancy yarn (not the cheapy stuff to make socks or potholders) and wrap and fill it with Christmas items such as small ornaments, wrapped candies, small toys, jewelry, games, rememberances of christmas past, small rubber stamps, small bells, etc. you get the picture...anything related to Christmas.

then you will place it in a pretty box all wrapped with ribbons and tissue, or whatever for your partner. more small items can be placed in the box or attached to the box then place the package in a larger box for shipping.

you will have 1 partner for this swap

please make this a special yarn ball...tailor it to your partner as much as you can or make it a surprise...let your partner decide.

US and Canada only due to shipping

please do not sign up if you have any no sends.

please make sure you send on time as this swap should be in the mail for your partner in December.

i decided to start early before all the holiday rush...

approximate value $10 - $12 before shipping

Hi,

I would really really like to participate in this one...but I live in Canada. Is there any way we can make an arrangement? I would not mind getting a skein of plain ordinairy yarn instead of a fancy one. Maybe the difference in price between the cheap yarn and the fancy one would cover the price difference between shipping to Canada instead of the US? If there's other people who want to do this maybe we could start an international one..

Thanks!

Hi Zenhey, i think shipping to Canada will be fine. i will change the listing. thanks for asking and i hope you play with us.

umm think I got Carried away.. how big should these be? I mean yarn wise...LOL I did the $ amount without the yarn..LOL Jenni

Should the 10 dollar value be before or after the yarn? Some "fancy" yarns alone could cost that much. Thank you.

user2068 10/ 6/2006 #

$10 total. if you get some fancy yarn at Michaels it will be around $5 - $7 a skein but use a 40% of coupon. if you don;t have a Michaels close by try Meijers or other large store for some yarns.

I received such a wonderful package from Catherine in Minnesota this past week. She was so fast getting this out to me! I'd hoped to keep the ball intact and anticipate what what inside a bit longer...but my Cardigan corgi puppy climbed onto the dining room table where the box was and raced around the house with the yarn ball in his mouth! I'll try to get some pictures posted of all the little treasures that were inside. Thank you so much Catherine!

This was fun to create. I just finished making my yarn ball, wrapping it and packing it up to mail out.

My yarn was slippery and it was nearly impossible to get round or smooth items into the ball. Some tricky items worked best if I wound the yarn around first then tucked the items inside after.

I ended up having nearly everything near the core then using a lot of the yarn to cover nearly everything up. It is funny that some of the items are poking out.

I hope the recipient (Paula C.) is happy. I used a combination of old toys from my own childhood, my children's little toys and things and then some new items.

Can't wait to receive my yarn ball!!

By the way until this swap I had never heard of a yarn ball before, love the idea!

Yeah! I'm glad that Coffeelatte liked receiving her yarn ball. It was so much fun to make. I hadn't heard of anything like this before either. I will definitely have to make it a tradition!

Just waiting on the yarn ball from my partner now. Whoever you are, I'm eagerly checking my mailbox each day! :)

Received my fabulous yarn ball this week!!! Loved the yarn and the presentation box and goodies...almost hated to unwrap it, but did, and the pressies inside were delightful!! Thanks

Oh, P.S., my swap parner was Kelly :+} Thanks

My package weighed over 13 oz so it automatically went out priority mail which takes 2-3 days to reach the destination (no word from recipient yet that it arrived). I sent it on 11/27 so it should have gotten there by now.

This is my first swap-bot experience. My own yarn ball didn't arrive yet. I see a few "not sents" on the list and it is now past the date to be postmarked. I am getting a bit worried and am disappointed that I spent over $10 for my end and may not even get one in return! :(
