it's crazy and I may have to pull out of this great swap! I have trailed to all the card shops in my local towns in England and been told that they are not going to stock Halloween cards and in fact didn't even know they existed!! But - I am not giving up yet!

marinda 09/ 4/2011 #

That is crazy! Really? No Halloween cards??

obsequies 09/ 4/2011 #

I'm not sure if we have Halloween cards around here...I'll have to check around, definitely keeping watching on this :)

Batraplume 09/19/2011 #

Is this postcard or double card we're swapping here? Here in France, we don't have Halloween cards in stores neither as France doesn't celebrate Halloween (which is frustrating!) But I'll try to find one even if I need to order it on the internet!

This is for a folded card in an envelope, not a postcard. Thanks for asking! It is really unfathomable to me that places around the world do not celebrate Halloween. It is so big around here! I love to learn new things about other countries. I'm so glad you all are signing up. :)

Thanks! Unfortunatly I've found only postcards so I won't be able to join this swap :-/ Yes, Halloween is a US celebration only! I have a Scottish friend, they don't celebrate it neither. In France and at the end of the 90s, we were able to finnd some Halloween decorations in supermakets. It lasted 2 or 3 years and then disappeared as it has no cultural or religious background here in France. We do celebrate November 1st ("Toussaint" = "all saints"?) which celebrate all our dear dead people but it is not a fun celebration at all. We usually just go to the cemeteries and leave chrysanthemums on the tombs, that's all. That's my story!

@Batraplume "All Saints Day" is actually the original Halloween day. It's my hubby & I's anniversary ;) so sending an All Saints Day card "should" be acceptable...but of course it isn't up to me :) lol... just thought I would add that! :D

Batraplume 09/29/2011 #

@UrMom Ok but even if we celebrate All Saints Day here, cards on this theme don't exist either!! I'll try a Xmas cards swap , this way I'm sure I'll find some store bought cards! ;-)

Wow... I found this so interesting. I thought they celebrated Halloween in Europe at least on a smaller level. It originated in Ireland, didn't it?? And when I was in Heathrow airport in 2007 there was a Claires there with awesome Halloween stuff. Stuff we didn't have in our Claires here in the US. I know they do a few things in Edinburgh Scotland. That place is so haunted.... you'd think they'd have a field day with it. There's no Halloween in England or Scotland at all??????? You would all love it here then. I think it's the 2nd biggest holiday only to Christmas. And they start putting up stuff in the stores in August. Ha. OK... maybe we are too nuts. But my house is all decorated for my beginning of the Halloween season lunch tomorrow.... you are all invited. :-)

I don't know if there is no Halloween in England or Scotland at all, all I know is that my Scottish friend said they didn't celebrate it there. Is it in her family, in her home town or in Scotland? I'll ask her to tell me a bit more next time I see her. We're planning to have a small Halloween party at her home (in France) though because she loves it too! We'll have to be dressep up (at least on the head!) so I can't wait! :)

Would it be possible for the countries that don't have Halloween cards or celebrate Halloween could make their cards so they could be part of this swap?

sarahc6967 10/ 2/2011 #

Hello I am new on this site how do i know who to send the card to?

Adlpated 10/ 2/2011 #

@sarahc6967 - the coordinator will assign partners, and swap-bot will send you an email to check for your partner. A link will be on the upper right hand side of the swap page that will take you to a little window listing who you send it to.

Batraplume 10/ 3/2011 #

I have found some "store bought" cards (ordered online but not made in France, sorry!) so I'm finally joining this swap!

@Gingergirl - there are lots of other Halloween swaps currently running on SwapBot that allow hand made cards!

guys i am going to have to drop out I am from Ireland and I believe it did originate here and in the UK although the Uk celebrates it slightly different I went into all my local card stores and couldn't find one anywhere, they may have them in next week its still early

I have NOT found any PCs for Halloween here in MI!! I have been to several places and found NONE!! I did find Autumn ones but that was it!! I love learning about other cultuers and find this VERY interesting!! I did buy Halloween cards on www.ebay.com so I do have some!! but now I read it's for a regular card:( Guess I'll have to go buy one for this swap!!

CajunLady 10/ 4/2011 #

Actually All Saints Day is NOT the original Halloween. Halloween, or Samhain as it is originally know, has been celebrated in some for time, even before there was a such thing as Saints.

rattissia 10/10/2011 #

ugh I just noticed that the 10th is a federal holiday so my card that's waiting at the post office will not be marked til the 11th even though I dropped it off there on the 8th at about 5 -.-.

Copperluck 10/10/2011 #

My card will be in the post tomorrow as today the 10th is a holiday Thanksgiving, plus we have no mail service on Saturdays or Sundays here.
