About Me

I am currently a senior Animation/Illustration major at Parsons the New School for Design. Though my thesis is a semi-traditional animation, I want to sew and design fabrics when I graduate- launching my own brand, Annette's Realm.

Annette's Realm will be an American brand in the vein of Japanese Lolita fashion. It will start with skirts, detachable collars and bows, and custom fabrics by the yard. When the brand grows big enough, I'll shift to U.S. manufacturing (the motivation for launching the brand) and use the proceeds to launch a high end couture dress line, Patriot Girl, in the same style. Patriot Girl will remain hand made. A percentage of the proceeds from Patriot Girl will go to the USO.

I feel really narcissistic filling out this profile...

Oh! Because I'm a Noob, here's some feedback on me from other transaction like sites: Ebay/Half.com crowstrove Etsy.com Crowstrove loligothdbs (Not set up yet)

Styles/Brands

Im smittin' with Japanese brands like Julette et Justine, Mary Madeline, Victorian Maiden, as well as some of the sweeter brands (BTSSB, AP, Innocent World, Milk, Etc.) In American Brands, I really like Gloomth, Diesel.

I like the Lolita styles, Neo Victorian/Steampunk, Baroque/Rocco, feral forest-y stuff, asthetic horror (Japanese ghosts, for instance,) and other Macabre goodies.

I'm starting to develop a taste for things nostalgically patriotic- More 18th/19th century than 20th.

Favorite Music

Right now I'm really into bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz, experimental neofolk stuff (like The Books)

as well as heavy metal, hair band, rock, alternative, and occasionally a dance or pop song.

Bands: The Books Mucc Billy Holiday Nina Simone Mary Ann Redmond Lady Gaga (wtf?) Nicklecreek

Etc, Etc...

Favorite Books

I've gotten really into American History lately.

Right now I'm reading: Hamilton's Curse, Thomas J. Dilorenzo, and The Handmade Marketplace, Kari Chapin (in prep to launch my own brand, vie Etsy and beyond.)

I dont know that I have favorites in that I tend to quickly grow out of the books I've read. Once I absorb the information, or work through the story I want the next level. The books that stick with me are ones that make vital points or have vital information I'll use at a later date to inform some project:

Banker to the Poor, Muhammad Yunus Creating a World Without Poverty, Muhammad Yunus A People's History of the United States, Howard Zinn The Trouble with Islam Today, Irshad Manji The Animator's Survival Guide, Richard Williams Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand

As well as a plithora of reference books and periodicals

Favorite Movies

Right now I'm working my way through The Masters of Horror series. Scary- some better than others.

I love Mr. Smith and The Great Escape. Both of those are quintessentially American movies that epitomize the golden age of Hollywood. They have everything you need in a movie and nothing you don't.

As an animator, of course, I love Disney, Miyazaki, Takahata, and Te Wei (will be sorely missed.)

Other Animations: Madame Tutli-Putli The Triplets of Bellville

Favorite Crafts

I done almost everything at least once (except maybe work with molten glass O.o.. Oh! and felting.. never done felting.)

Mostly I draw, currently. When I graduate I want to start sewing again. So...

Drawing Painting (oil) Design Sculpting (Clay) Sewing Cross stitch & Embroidery Bead work Some Jewelry Amazing Glue Gun Skillz Some Scrapbooking Stamping Printmaking (I actually plan to use stamps and linoleum cuts to print custom fabrics.)
Some book binding Cooking limited Knitting skills

etc, etc

Favorite Color, etc

Im an oil painter, so I love true Venetian Red and Payne's Grey. I love almost any color, but you cant go wrong with mint greens, dusty blues and greys. ... Don't care much for day glow colors, especially orange.

I love quality lace and trims. Fabrics- mostly broadcloth and quilting fabric, but strange, new fabrics, too. Antique metal, shank buttons.

Really anything aesthetically rich and nostalgic. Never taken to modern.

Allergies

I dont have any food allergies (Yey!)

I tend towards dry skin, so avoid anything heavily fragrances. Shea butter is a savior. No worries, I'll probably avoid cosmetics oriented swaps.

Wishlist

ribbons, bows, fabric yardage, stickers, metal buttons, lace trim and appliques, ATCs, decorative labels, postcards, notebooks, art pens, art paper, stamps, Hello Kitty, Littlest Petshop, food themed things, kawaii things, candy and junk food, weird flavors that I cant get in NYC, trinkets, deco supplies, knitted/crocheted items, dolls, puppets, paper dolls, etc, etc, etc ^.^

Comment: Got the cards in today! Both the postcards and business cards look great, where did you get them printed and cut? I love the rounded corners, I wish it didn't cost extra! I'll drop these in two of the libraries on campus and this really excellent artsy tea shop downtown.
Response: I got them at overnightprints.com They definitely aren't overnight, they take a while. but they're pretty cheap as far as cards go.

HELLO fellow Nooby-ita! I am not sure if people normally tell one another - but I'm your BigFatEnvelopeSwap#2 Partner!! I tell you as you truly ARE an Ar-teest (daahling), and I'l love to DELIGHT you with things you will USE! My closest exposure to Parson's is: on the TV show; to Japanese anything is: Hello Kitty and Anime (Death Note, Inuyasha, Cowboy BeBop, most of those shown on Adult Swim), and exposure to REAL ART...hmm. Suppose that's all in the definition! heh! Let's say that you should PM me, and let's talk! I want to Hook Up the Talented Young Narcissist in Brooklyn! LOL BTW - I am OBVIOUSLY a Noob too... but you WILL be SOOO glad the Bot picked me4u!! ;) (Now I feel narcissistic!) Welcome to the crowd!
