About Me

4/17: I've just moved into a new house and can't wait to get back to swapping! My "maker station" isn't set up, yet. I'm watching a bunch of swaps and using them as motivation to get things organized (and find a chair for the desk!).

I just turned 25! I'm also married, with two degrees under my belt (English and history) and a dream-job at an eclectic little book shop that just fell into my lap. I'm active in my local community, and my husband and I are novice urban homesteaders!

I had planned to earn an MLIS and go into archival work, and that may still happen. For now, I'm content to enjoy a slower pace of life and do some crafting!

I've been doing mail art through various swap sites since 2003. I've just returned to Swapbot after a few years away, and I'm very excited to have found one site with so many swappers!

I'd love to start a one-on-one swap with you! Take a look at the rest of my profile and PM me if you think you'd like something from me.

Crafting

I have piles and piles of truly vintage ephemera. They're cast-offs from my book shop, and often work their way into art pieces. I love playing with old children's books, using the words and images for ATCs and journaling, as well as DECOs and whatever else lands in my path.

I learned to sew and cross-stitch as a little girl, and to be honest, my skill level hasn't improved much since then. But, I still enjoy sewing and other fabric crafts, as well as mixing this medium into ATCs and paper art.

My husband and I are all about living green and simplicity. We reuse what we can and recycle the rest - and my art often reflects this!

I'm also getting into fictionalized letters and journals as swaps. If you'd like to start one up with me, just let me know!

Book Hoarder

I always dread the "favorite books" portion of a profile. It's just so hard to choose! My favorite genres are 19th and 20th century children's literature, historical fiction, creative nonfiction writings, biographies, scholarly historical works and whatever else I have laying around.

At the moment, I'm sucking in historical fiction novels and early 20th century works from both the US and the UK. Biographies, too. I'm usually juggling something along the lines of Henry James, JK Rowling, Emerson, Wharton, a trashy romance and JM Barrie. It muddles my head a bit, but I wouldn't want it any other way!

As I work in an antiquarian and used book shop, I'm around paper (and dust) constantly. The paper cuts are awful, but I don't mind.

My ever-expanding list of Favorites includes: Anne of Green Gables, Peter Pan, Midsummer Night's Dream, Self-Reliance, Harry Potter, The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, Five Little Peppers, Secret History of the Pink Carnation, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Awakening, Ella Enchanted, Twelfth Night, High Tide in Tucson, Looking for Alaska, Notes from a Small Island, Wuthering Heights, When Sheep Cannot Sleep

Musical Tastes

I loathe to admit that I listen to mostly indie music these days, but that's what the local college radio station plays!

Kina Grannis, Dante Cim, Mika, Imogen Heap, Nice Peter, Sara Barellis, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Marc Ronson, Fleet Foxes, Frontier Ruckus, Wizard Rock and a myriad of YouTube musicians.

I'm an avid YouTube'r. Alright, I'm obsessed.

Likes and Wishes

Garden and nature-inspired art. I'd especially love some little statues (fairy houses, mushrooms, etc) to put in the garden.

Little planters and pots for flowers/grasses/herbs

Anything having to do with the United Kingdom (I'm an anglophile to the core.)

Classic childrens literature books and images

Autumn or Spring colors & corresponding stuff

Little paint brushes

Sustability and homestead-related items

Steampunk

Coffee, tea and chocolate!

Journaling partners and pen pals

Small animals (porcelain, glass, wood, ceramic) Wooden carved animals, especially!

Little paintings

J.M. Barrie (simplified: Peter Pan stuff)

Anything that will motivate me to get my butt back on the yoga mat!

Vintage travel and tourism ephemera

Maps, new and old

Anne of Green Gables (my favorite book)

Sewing by hand

Surprise ATCs

Victorian-esque themed art and items

Bicycles and bike-related art

Black and white photographs and trinkets

Items and ephemera inspired by India/Yoga/Hindu-centric cultures.

Ephemera of all types!

I'm not really into...

Ethnic themes don't really do much for me, including Africanic, Latino, and Asian inspired works of art. While they're beautiful, ... eh. I'm just not really feelin' it. Similarly, I'm not into ancient history. (Please don't send me pictures of Egyptian relics - why does everyone do that?!)

Other Not-so-Loves: Ladybugs, butterflies, cherries, nuts, coconut, vampires, trains, planes, automobiles and most kawaii stuff.

Treasures

I've have acquired a good amount of random "found" arts and paper treasures. If you'd like a surprise in the mail from me, just ask!

Comment: Thanks so much, Audrey! If I'm ever in the Lansing area, I'll be sure to stop by. These days, most of my tours tend to be digital so I can have time to write the books. :) Love to do a 1-on-1 swap with you, but I don't know how to set one up.

It is intriguing - I think!

Hey, girl! We're both librarians, love tiny paintings, maps, autumn colors and are ANGLOPHILES!

Bucket on Sep 2, 2008:

I went to Albion - grew up in Canton, Michigan (halfway between Ann Arbor and Detroit).

I edit fiction for an online litmag (The Adirondack Review) and one of my interns is starting her last year at Oakland - Jen Van Vliet. (I know... connections are always a long shot...)

Hi Audacity - I saw you were from Michigan on the great notecard you sent me during a swap! I live in Oregon, but was born and raised in Michigan - I've only been out on the west coast for nine months.

What college did you graduate from?
