ARTIST BIO: Cindy has worked as a professional artist, illustrator and designer since 1992. She expresses her whimsical, colorful style in a variety of media including pencil crayon, block prints, ceramics, watercolor, pen and ink and whatever medium strikes her fancy. Collage and artist trading cards are recent passions. Cindy enjoys observing people and incorporating their unique expressions and personalities into her work.
ABOUT ME: I am from the Bay Area California. I have a small design firm with several employees and it keeps me very busy. We design mostly for the Nightclub Industry. (Yep, those annoying club cards you find stuck under your windshield wipers). I do most of my personal artwork in the evenings and weekends and always have to be occupied with something. I'm always on the go! I love to mess around with all kinds of media. On the side I sell my work on eBay, and have fun on many internet groups chatting, sharing experiences and swapping with people all over the globe. I love how the internet has opened doors for artists and like-minded people everywhere.
Check out my website if you want to see what I make and do. Or my 'badly-needs-updated-blog'.
Here are some of my likes and dislikes (I'm working on the list here and there):
CRAFTS / ART: Anything handmade! I love all styles of art and appreciate the effort and joy that goes into anything someone has taken the time to make. I am not particularily into cutesie, or religious .. but don't want to stiffle someone's creativity because of it. Personally, I really appreciate well made work. I put alot of work and thought into my swap items, and I hope my partners will do the same. ;-)
SCENTS I LIKE: Very plain and simple ... Vanilla, Cinnamon, Subtle Earthy Scents, Lavender, Almond
SCENTS I DISLIKE: Rose, Patchouli, Strong Floral Scents, Smoking Smells
FOODS I LIKE: Pretty much everything. Yep. I even like trying international stuff. I find it alot of fun to go to an Asian market and find something I haven't tasted before. (Plus I love looking at the packaging.) I'm not big on berry teas, or hibiscus. Love Earl Greys, and darker teas. Red teas, cinnamon, chai ... something with zip. OK, and I'm not overly big on banana flavor.
Cake, Billy Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Indy Music, Alternative, Canadian Bands like Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, (I'm open to just about anything except not big on screaming ... lol.) I like alot of 70's bands as well Eagles, Steve Miller, Pink Floyd and I even like disco. I like a WIDE RANGE of music.
I like to learn about 'local' music. So, if there's a favorite band that is undiscovered that you love - lay it on me. ;-)
I also collect 'Moon Songs' any song that mentions the moon, or is a about the moon is a candidate. The more obscure or buried in the lyrics, the better. (I kinda have the obvious ones ... Bad Moon Rising, Blue Moon, etc.)
Out of Africa, Amelie, Breakfast Club, The Royal Tanenbaums, The Life Aquatic, What Dreams May Come, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Magnolia, Napoleon Dynomite, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, too many to list, really.
I'm a sucker for bad reality shows and won't publicly admit to the ones I watch. LOL I also like CHEESY 70's retro TV, like WKRP, MASH, Sanford and Son, Welcome Back Kotter, Taxi, Barney Miller.
Artist Trading Cards, Chunky Books, Painting, Matchboxes, Drawing, Zines, Pottery, Making Campy & Weird Off-the-wall Jewelry, Found Object Art, Collage, Beading, Altered Books, Altars & Hispanic Influenced Art, Making anything into something else like -- old jewelry boxes into a shrine -- bottle caps into a bracelet -- matchbox into a treasure trove of fun things.
I like ephemera, weird old labels (or new labels that are unusual) and ad art, clipped out faces, Vintage 30's-80's rather than Victorian, I prefer Bell Bottoms to Lace, Fibers to craft wool, Betty Grable over Betty Boop, Emily Strange over Emily Carr. lol.
I like dollar store treasures, (and LOVE packaging from other countries especially if there's bad English or really weird illustrations decribing how to use something ... I'm pretty odd. lol) Last treasure to pick up from a dollar store? $1 purses. I ripped off all the ugly embellishments and drew all over it and added interesting fibers and other dangly things.
I'm not too into cutsie ... bunnies and teddy bears ... overly religious country. No offense. ;-)
