About Me

Hi, I'm Sharon, a 40-something paper crafter and card maker. Lately, I've been into box making and chipboard projects. I'm married with no children, one cat named Trouble, though he prefers Buddy, and one dog, a JRT/AmStaff mix named Isabel. I also feed a colony of feral cats, many of whom are quite tame.

I enjoy nature and live in a rural area where I am lucky enough to be a block from the beach while living in the woods.

In 2018 at the age of 43, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, hence Moving, Shaking, and Making. As a result, my projects are not always perfectly straight but I don't mind. Creating helps me maintain dexterity and avoid apathy.

Sadly my handwriting has been impacted by my PD, but my occupational therapist says continuing to write is the best thing to do. Any letters I send will probably start good, but be shaky and cramped by the second or third paragraph. Particularly if it has been a long day.

A group of crafters in my community have just gotten together to form a crafting club where we are going to take turns sharing a craft. We are meeting once per month to teach each other new crafts or new techniques.

I had never participated in a swap before joining this site, and I thought it would be fun. If I do something that is not quite right, please contact me and let me know so I can fix it. I am excited to try something new, share my creations, and see what others are creating.

Favorite Books

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne Anything fantasy, both urban fantasy and sword & sorcery.

I love audiobooks and listen to them during my 40-minute drive to work. I've also started listening to podcasts, and highly recommend The Adventure Zone if you are into D&D and comedy.

Audiobook-wise, Larry Corriea's Grimnoir Chronicles is one of the best narrated series I've ever listened to. Or if you like the 80's, the TV show Psych, and the undead, try TW Brown's That Ghoul Ava series. You will not be disappointed.

Favorite Crafts

I have always been a craft dabbler. I have crocheted including making doilies, filet crochet, and amigurumi,, cross stitched, made candles, played with polymer clay, and done a little resin crafting.

About 4 years ago I went to a paint and sip. I always "wished" I could paint, but since I cannot draw I figured I couldn't paint. Then I tried it, and had a blast. As a plus, my painting came out looking good. So I turned to YouTube for tutorials on painting acrylic on canvas, went down the YouTube rabbit hole, and came out a paper crafter.

I paint a bit, and love it, but mostly I make cards, covered notebooks, boxes, chipboard projects and the like. I'm starting to dabble in making my own embellishments, and memorydex. Who knows what will come next...

Dislikes

Religious themes Make-up Children's items/Teacher gifts

These are not so much dislikes, as things that I do not have need of or use for.

Likes

Hydrangeas Bees Butterflies Birds Natural colors/fibers Unique embellishments Doilies Tissue paper

Favorite Television

I'm more of a YouTube watcher than a TV person. I watch a lot of crafting videos, and video game play throughs.

I enjoy The Frugal Crafter, Posh Paper Lady, Painting with Jane, Sam Calcott UK-Mixed Up Craft, Living Big in A Tiny Home, Neebs Gaming, Skippy0330, and Game Edged.

TV wise I am currently watching Lilo and Stitch the series; I love Stitch. Grace & Frankie, Shameless, but I'm behind on that one. Outlander and The Magicians.

Comment: Sharon! Your card was absolutely amazing!! And yes I would call those Tulips 🌷. Very well done indeed. Square cards can be intimidating for me, too. But hey, by going out if your comfort zone to create such a beautiful card earned you a 5 & ❀️! I love the card. And what a delightful chatty letter you included. I enjoyed reading about your struggles (yet accomplishments) with PD. Hang in there honey! Reading about the babies was sweet, too. I miss my grand & great grand babies. Thank you so much for joining me in our little swap! You did great!
Response: Thanks Deb! I'm glad you liked the card. I appreciate you taking a chance on a Newbie and will be sure to pay that forward. I look forward to seeing your card, and hope we can continue to write.

I did not know that tulips 🌷 🌷 were the official PD flower. How nice. Mom planted tulips 40 years ago when her & dad moved here. They’re still coming up every year. Not as many as 40 yrs ago, though πŸ™
