I am a children's librarian in Rawlins WY. I work for the County Public Library and am the Children's Programmer for the whole County at all 8 locations. I am looking to exchange postcards from all over in hopes of sharing them with the children that come to my summer reading program this summer. Our theme is One world, Many Stories.
I am hoping to let others here in my small section of wy....see what is in the world to see. I am very excited about this project and would love more postcards.
I have probably mailed about 200 postcards in the last month through various resources in order to get postcards back. I mail out the same day if at all possible.
I was given a bunch of postcards/ many not mailed by another librarian in New Jersey to add to my growing collection for this project.
I really would like postcards of historical places, cities, states, iconic things to see. I would love to see what your part of the world looks like. something you think symbolizes your area.
As a children's librarian I have lots of favorite books. Some of my favorite picture books are The pigeon books by Mo Willems, Where the Wild things are, and I can read with my eyes shut by Dr Seuss.
I have been reading a lot of juv novels lately...To recommend this summer for summer reading. The following are one's I highly recommend and will be suggesting to 3-7 graders in my area.
Savvy and Scumble by Ingrid Law. Imagine you got a special power at 13 but didnt know till the day you turned 13 what that power would be?? Both great books.
Wings By E.D. Baker. He also wrote the story the movie of the Princess and the frog is based on.
Because of Mr Terupt. This book is an excellent read for any child...bc it tells the story through 7 narrators....all children. Each child can find someone to relate to.
Some of my other favs are The Secret Garden, Catcher in the Rye, A Seperate Peace, Harry Potter of course, When You reach me, Gossomer (anything really by lois lowry) and many many others.
I am completely addicted to Greek and the Secret Life of the American Teenager. IT is like a trainwreck I can not help but watch.
I am also a girl scout leader. I have been in girl scouts most of my life...as my mom was a camp director for Girl Scouts when I was growing up.
I have 3 children. Aged 8, 10, and 11. They keep me busy with their stuff...but when I have time....I enjoy writing. I am currently working on a book about my hometown area....the history told through the history of my own family in the area. They have been there since not long after the first settlers came to America.
I am hoping to really give the local children a good view of everything that is out there in the world to see. I really am looking for any postcards that give "a different view" of the world around us. Things the children may not get to see in any other way.
I would love postcards with local places on them. One of my favorites to send is of our historical frontier prison. My degree is in history and political science.....but I have a love affair with the telling of man's story. History is not about dates and times...but about the lives that people led.
