About Me

If I don't rate, please give me a gentle reminder. I don't always get to my computer as soon as I receive mail and have been known to forget ;) Thanks. Also I do regift things I can't use.

I am New Zealand born, but have lived a lot of my life in other countries. My husband is Japanese and we have 3 son. We have been back in NZ about 6 years now after a 13 year stint in Japan. Loved it there but am happy to be living a slower paced life at the bottom of the world!

My favourite colours are sunny yellow and almost all purples. My favourite flowers are pansies. My grandmother grew them so they make me think of her. (They're also my sister's favourite for the same reason!)

I love cats and reading, and sitting with a good book, a cat in front of an open fire. Pity I don't open fire at the moment. :( I do however, have two beautiful cats named Ninja and Neo. What I read varies, but I like fantasy, some sci-fi, and an asortment of fiction. My dream home would be to live on a little bit of land about 20 minutes from a medium sized town, preferably with a sea view! (Emphasis is on dream!)

Just a note - I don't appreciate profanity, nudity or gratutious violence. Thanks.

Favorite Music

70's music, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Dobyn, Hirai Ken, Bic Runga, Chage and Aska, Bee Gees early stuff, Bread, Jack Johnson, James Blunt, Op Shop, Little River Band, Neil Diamond

Favorite Movies

Amazing Grace, Sound of Music, King Arthur, Lord of the Rings,Shakespeare In Love, Miss Potter, To Kill A Mockingbird, Thor

Favorite Television

CSI, CSI: New York, Bones, Midsommer Murders. Numb3rs, Without A Trace, Spooks, NCIS, NCIS LA, The Legend of the Seeker, Person of Interest

Favorite Crafts

Cross stitch, patchwork, card making (just getting into this) and paper crafts, and creative writing - short stories mainly with a splash of poetry (my favourite poet is Gerard Manly Hopkins, and now ATCs!

Favorite Books

My favourite author is probably Katherine Kurtz. I have read almost all of her books that are set in her Deryni world. I love medieval fantasy, which explains why The Lord of the Rings trilogy are among my favourite movies. Plus how can one not fall in love with all that fantastic New Zealand scenery? (Did I mention I was from NZ? LOL)

I also enjoy most kinds of fiction. I don't however read romance novels - the Mills and Boon kind. Can never get passed the first page. I like Kate Atkinson but don't seem to be able to finish a Margaret Atwood novel.

Comment: Thanks so much for your fun letter! I love your not-so-brilliant villain... listing a phone number on his ransom note (hahaha). I'd love to know if you decide to make a story out of the swap. Thanks again for sharing! :-)

Comment: Thanks for your letter. I too left things to the last minute due to being busy, and I'm also tired of going "Well, no progress here!" Maybe that will change soon, for both of us

Comment: Great swap. I was already planning on reading the Divergent series. But you're the second person who tells me that the first book is ok and then it goes down hill. So now I'm a bit in doubt to read it or not. The hunger games and the game of thrones are definatly on my to read pile. I have still a week vacation, so I'm planning on reading a lot. I really enjoyed reading your letter. Happy reading! ^_^

Comment: Thanks for your letter, I'm sorry your goals aren't going better. Mine are making progress, but so very slowly. I too have the bad habit of buying notebooks, intending to write, and then letting them gather dust :)

Comment: What an intriguing idea for NaNoWriMo! The connected short stories sounds like the way to go. Aim for that 1667 goal everyday. If you end up with just 167 in a day, guess what? You're farther along than if you'd written nothing at all!! Keep at it. Your tribute poem project is lovely. And I, too, keep multiple journals. Good luck with all of your projects!

Comment: Interesting! I just bought Goodby Sarajevo, will read it soon, I know of J. Chariverini but she's too light for my taste. Dubliners I read long ago. The Help, saw the movie, didn't want to read the book and your two NZ books are unknown to me.
Response: Always the problem with regional books. I see many other swappers mention but can't find here.
