Hi, I'm Georgia.
Just an April 2022 update, at some point during my long covid journey, I had a heart attack. I'm cutting down, maybe out for a bit.
I'm an almost 60 year old wife and mom of 3 grown children. I sufferer from multiple chronic illnesses and mail makes me feel better. I am also a postcard junkie and really need to stay off EBay :-) I've added vintage postage as an addiction. There is no hope for me.
My chronic illness issues caused some extreme financial issues which made mail an unpleasant experience. Things have improved since we relocated to Washington state
In my real life, I'm a retired computer geek for a medium sized city. I work now part time as a DSP with people who have physical and/or cognitive difficulties. Works out since I have cognitive dysfunction myself now.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness". --- Dave Berry
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Norm, for more than 37 years. We have 3 children. Our oldest is 40 and has 2 children of her own. Our son is 33 and our youngest non binary child is 29
We also have a mini Australian Shepherd, Shamus, and a MUTT Ari
I love lots of different types of books. My all time favorite books are:
To Kill a Mockingbird
The LOTR Trilogy
The Discworld Series
So You Want To Be a Wizard Series
Harry Potter
Pride and Prejudice
I like the following
Paul Simon
Moody Blues
Joni Mitchell
Anything Celtic
Dr Who
How I Met Your Mother
Castle
Criminal Minds
History Channel things about Rome and Greece
I've got quite a build up of unused cards so I have things available to match what people like since I'm also on Postcrossing. When I say quite a build up, I mean I may have a problem. Is there a 12 step program for this?
I have acquired some vintage and not-quite vintage cards off ebay so don't be surprised if you get one from me in a swap. I tend to look for people who ask for vintage unless it matches really well with what you are asking for.
Now, as for what I like--landscapes, map cards, foreign attractions, animals especially puffins and penguins, really anything goes. I like humor cards. I like vintage myself but I also like bright, bold, new stuff. I guess I don't fit any single mold.
Puffins and Penguins
Peacocks
Owls
Vintage Postcards (other vintage papers, too)
Handmade Envelopes
Note cards to use especially museum art cards
Stationery
Favorite colors are teal, green, blue, and gold
K-cups for coffee
Loose black teas
Washi/Deco tape
Butterflies
Fabric for locker hooking
I debated with myself about including this section but I think it has a place since I'm looking for pen-pals and some people care about these topics very deeply.
I'm a Christian but I believe that each person's beliefs are their own responsibility.
I'm a member of the Christian Left. I do think that the Right wing in the United States has left Jesus's teachings behind. I won't debate it with someone who doesn't believe that (see above).
I also don't feel that there is a problem supporting Gay rights and being a Christian. Jesus never preached against being Gay. I think many Christians have taken a few verses out of context and turned it into a vendetta. In any case, I believe in the separation of Church and State and I don't think the definition marriage in the United States should be controlled by churches. At the same time, I don't think a church should have to marry any couple they don't want to--that whole separation of Church and State thing. An obvious solution would be a recognized civil marriage and a separate religious marriage for those who want it.
I have a whole lot of other left wing beliefs which may upset people on the right. However, I have no problem leaving those discussions out of pen pals letters (see your beliefs are your own above). But if you can't, it's probably best if we just fulfill the swap requirements and move on.
By and large, I have had a wonderful experience on Swapbot. There have been a few exceptions to this but I try to not let those people color my view of Swapbot.
