As part of my 101 in 1001 Days Challenge, I've decided to participate in the "Swap-bot" project. I am really excited to get it started and am ready to start putting it together. Also, I'd like to make a note that I'm looking to swap with people who are not in the USA being as I'm from California.
Edit< I just want to add here that I am in no way trying to guilt trip my awesome American partners! You guys rock! I can't use you for my challenge, but it doesn't matter because swapping is so fun that I'll just have to swap more!
Here is my list of what I'm planning on swapping and some ideas for international swaps of what I am interested in receiving in return:
children's books *(in your native language! see "About Me" section) ,
favorite childhood candy,
favorite snack food,
favorite canned food,
a copy of a favorite chapter book,
copy of a favorite magazine,
a small stuffed animal, plush, or toy,
a mix CD of favorite songs and/or a favorite movie,
a piece of clothing,
something handmade,
something that represents where I/you live,
a few pieces of coin currency,
a letter :),
anything else that would be enjoyable!
As far as what I'm looking for, I'd like a similar list of what is above, though I'd LOVE it if everything was in your native language (if in fact, it's different than English)! Try to include things that you think are only found in your country. I'm so excited to see and try new things from different cultures ^_^
Thanks so much!
I am a 20 year old University student in California, USA. I am currently studying to be an elementary school teacher. Though I do not have a full time job, I do take a seasonal job at the Renaissance Faire in the spring where I am usually learning the henna arts. As far as hobbies go I love to read, write, paint, crochet, sew, quilt, watch anime, see movies, and listen to music. I'm also a sucker for crafts and arts and projects that are handmade. I love browsing Etsy to see what other people have made. :) My favorite colors are those in the cool color pallete like blues, purples, and greens.
Another interesting thing about me is that my fiancee is in the military and is currently stationed in Japan, so I am really interested in Japanese culture. Though really, I'm just interested in anything that is out of my realm. And I cannot wait to be able to show my students different cultures of the world. *That's why I have children's books listed; so I can feature them in my class. Perhaps someday I'll be able to create some sort of pen-pal system in my classroom.
I currently have 2 pets. Both are dessert tortoises and are named Abbott and Costello. I love cats and had my lovely Allie (she was a beautiful calico) who passed away in 2009 from cancer. I still adore cats and will always love her. Someday I hope to find another feline friend whom I can share my living space with. But, in the meantime, I have my boyos (the turtles)! They love to eat dandelions and veggies and like to be taken out of their pen for little walks in the sunshine.
Also, foods fascinate me. I love finding out people's preferences. From one of my favorite movies, "Some cultures are defined by their relationship to cheese." -Joon from Benny and Joon. Send me some of your favorites! Snack foods, canned foods, jar foods, sweets, teas...I'll try it all! And I'll send you some in return!
See you in the swap! :D
Eclectic, Indie Rock, and Indie Pop are some of my favorites right now. I've also been known to follow ska, alternative rock, metal, and symphonic metal such as Finnish band, Nightwish, I do like classic style strings, piano, and guitar for night-time music. Broadway style musicals and big band/swing numbers are also among my favorites. I also really enjoy any type of music that might be heard at a Renaissance Faire. :D I avoid hip-hop, pop, rap, and new country. Older country (like Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, and Randy Travis) is good, but I can't stand some of the new stuff....Taylor Swift's "Tears on my Guitar" is like emo-kid nails on a never-ending chalkboard to me. ew.
Crafts: Crochet, quilt, sewing clothes/costumes/cosplay, scrap-booking, painting, sculpting,...almost anything hands-on and creative. I love making it, love giving it, and love receiving it.
A couple hobbies of mine are horseback riding, face painting, creating henna designs, cooking, watching movies/shows (not sports), and writting. Also, anything to do with any sort of Renaissance Faire or middle-Earth/fantasy themes, I adore.
I do not like extraordinarily gory things. Artsy blood (such as Sweeney Todd anything) is ok...but mutilation and bodily fluids kinda gross me out. I do not like things that smell too bitter and strong like smoke and most incense. Sweet smells are fine. I don't really like neon colors. I do not like halter tops or tube tops or any kind of shirt that you cannot wear a bra with. I do not like horror movies. I do not like to eat salmon or really really spicy foods. I do not like screamo music, though I am perfectly fine with most all kinds of metal. I do not like spiders and creepy crawlies. And I do not like bad drivers! lol
