This will be the week #1 swap and it is to honor and to do an act of kindness in the name of little Charlotte Bacon, age 6. ** PLEASE NOTE: You can sign up for 1, 2 or all 26 swaps, please don't hesitate to sign up if you don't want to commit to doing all of them because they will all be separate. : ) I was reading an article on the Sandy Hook shootings and about "acts of kindness movement" ... and it said that the community of Newtown is hoping people everywhere "pay it forward" in their own communities, in the memory of those who were lost in the shootings as a way to honor them. So what I'd like to do is to have a swap a week, for 26 weeks to honor those who were lost. This will be a two-fold swap ... it's a long letter swap along with an "act of kindness" swap - in other words, it'll be a feel good swap in the names of those who were lost. You'll make someone feel good with your act of kindness and you and your partner will also feel good in getting a nice long letter. Just do an act of kindness each week [in the name of the person who's being honored that week] and write a letter to your partner, atleast 3 to 4 pages long and somewhere in the letter, tell what your act of kindness was and who it was for and some of the details of it if you'd like to share. Write your letter about whatever you choose, talk about your family, your life, where you live, your hobbies or whatever as long as it's an upbeat, happy letter [you know the kind we all like to get!] : ) Please also remember, these do NOT have to be any major things, sometimes the small things can really mean the most. In the same article, a Boston resident hadn't heard of the growing movement of the acts of kindness and on her way to work one morning, she found a baggie that was tucked under her windshield wiper and in it was a Christmas lollipop with a note saying that it was in memory of Emily Parker, age 6 and it urged her to pay it forward. This small act of kindness touched this lady and brought her mother to tears. Also, you don't have to wait to do your act of kindness, once you sign up - go to it! Sorry that this is just for those of us in the US but I made it that way due to the cost of postage and hope you understand. Newbies allowed with a filled out profile. |
