I have asked @gnomeangel if I could host a scrap swap in the USA only and she has kindly let me.

Next Swap please leave comments I check daily

For those wanting to make a Scrap Vomit Quilt as seen on "I'm a Ginger Monkey": http://imagingermonkey.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/care-for-some-scrap-vomit-aka-quilt.html

Details: 1. What to Swap - You'll be swapping a Scrap Vomit Square Pack. The pack contains 49 x 2.5" squares of material. This is enough Scrap Vomit Squares to create one Block A. (Obviously, you can use the squares you receive any way you like.) This is a scrap quilt so there's no expectation that the squares will be fussy cut. You just have to make a 2.5" square of a single material - please don't use selvage or sew scraps together to make a square. It would be great if you could swap 49 different fabrics in your Scrap Vomit Square Pack, however if you can't do this I ask that you try to include as many different fabrics as possible it will help people to have unique and one of a kind quilts. 1. Give unto Others - It should go without saying, but just so we're clear: only swap material that you would be happy to receive and use in a quilt yourself. This means swapping quilting quality material (preferably cotton). Using a mix of pattern that you think is both pretty and vomitty. (Obviously this one is a little subjective, so again if you'd be happy to use it swap it - if in doubt probably best to either contact the person you're swapping with to see if they'd like it or maybe keep it for yourself (and you're next scrap quilt!).)

  1. Communication is Key - I understand that life sometimes throws you a curve ball and means that you can't always do what you would like, so if for any reason you have to pull out of the swap just drop me (and if you're so inclined) your partners an email to let me know and we'll work around it. The more warning you can give the better so that I can redirect packages, etc.

  2. Time is Money - Please post your squares to your swap partner by the postage date specified. If you're anything like me just knowing that something is coming in the mail is uber exciting, so it would be great if all our packages arrive around the same time so that we can all celebrate together.

  3. Quilt Karma - Ultimately a swap like this is only as good as what you put in to it so please remember to treat everyone as you would expect to be treated. Chances are if you shaft someone today, you'll be shafted tomorrow.

Raided my scraps and I am ready to go!! I can't wait to get some SCRAPS!

whit763 02/ 7/2013 #

I agree, who knew it could be so fun to get scraps

elsa 02/ 7/2013 #

I've participated in the international swap 2 times now and just love it! Excited there's one just for the USA! I'm ready!!! elsa

beadqueene 02/11/2013 #

I sewed all the squares I had this weekend and now I'm out of unique scraps :( Too bad this one is still 3 weeks out...

If anyone in the US wants to do a private SV swap, let me know!

whit763 02/12/2013 #

@beadqueene I was thinking the same thing. Who wants to have the sign up end sooner? what date? Should there be less time inbetween sign up dates? I've been trying to do them onece a month? ideas? more partners? please leave ideas!

crimsonmeg 02/13/2013 #

I would like to join, and I am fine with doing it sooner. Right after deadline would be good. Also, I just did the International swap and we had five partners. I'm up for that as well.

whit763 02/13/2013 #

Ok How about the swaps end on Mondays and then you have to send by friday? How does that sign? any other people want to do 5 people? the only thing I worry about with that is that onthe USA swaps there isn't as many as the international swaps so we many end up getting more of the same fabric?

beadqueene 02/13/2013 #

@whit763 I'd be fine with a quicker turn around time or more partners, I have a lot of squares cut out of my stash, and I'm expecting some scraps from a colleague too, so there's no shortage of squares... I just don't want a TON of duplicate blocks, lol. I understand your concern about repeat partners. Are you a member of the scrap vomit appreciation society group on Flickr? I think that's where the original swap came from -- maybe you could drum up some interest advertising for US only swappers over there?

swtleaf1984 02/15/2013 #

i'm in for quicker turn around. i am sooo impatient. just knowing something is coming kills me.

whiskygirl07 02/16/2013 #

@ whit I'm good with sooner. Let me tell my cousin to sign up. She just finished a quilt top and i am almost certain she'll wanna join. I am game to have some more swaps! Just ket me know know when. @beadqueene send me a message, i'd love to do a private swap!

whit763 02/16/2013 #

Ok The next swap will have a quick turn around with 1 more person? yes/ no? the new swap will be up today. Do you guys want to still do a swap a month?

whiskygirl07 02/16/2013 #

Yes! I'm in!

whiskygirl07 02/16/2013 #

My cousin Teresa Waters wants to get in on this!! So dont close it with out her.. She'll be a newbie. And a new quilter!! She is so on fire gor quilting. Super excited, Amy

Teresa50 02/16/2013 #

Ok Amy, I'm in. Never done this before but I'm always up for a challenge. So you ladies will need to lead me by the hand until I get the hang of it, then hold on cause nothing will stop me once I know exactly what to do. I'm so excited. I might ask dumb crazy questions so bare with me.

whit763 02/16/2013 #

@Teresa50 it's actually pretty easy just gotta cut out 50- 2.5 in squares and mail them to your partner!

whiskygirl07 02/16/2013 #

@Teresa50 . LOVE THAT YOUR ON HERE!!! Can't wait till we start swapping and making this quilt.. TOGETHER!! Love you! Too Excited for words, Amy

grandmavalerie 02/18/2013 #

I have a stash of vintage 100% cotton fabric as I've been sewing for 50 years now. And no, lol, its not falling apart. Before I join this swap I have a few questions. 1. Do I send 50 squares of the same piece or a combo of pieces equaling 50? 2. What does fussy cut mean? 3. Do I have to use pinking shears to cut them with? Thanks!!! Valerie

elsa 02/18/2013 #

A swap a month sounds great!

MamaMay 02/18/2013 #

@grandmavalerie

They are supposed to be 50 unique fabric squares.

The meaning of fussy cut link

I didn't use pinking shears. I just straight rotary cut my fabric!

MamaMay 02/18/2013 #

Wow! I have been cutting just one strip of each fabric I own and then cutting squares until I run out (putting one square of each fabric in a different pile until I reach 50). I so far have made 14 scrap vomit packs and have another 14 in varied stages of vomitiness.

TurtleBugDesigns 02/18/2013 #

This is my first swap so, I was just wondering when we get our partners? I am really excited to get the packs mailed...

whit763 02/19/2013 #

@MamaMay thanks for answering questions! Wow you guys have been busy cutting. So what does ever one thing about having swaps ever 3 weeks or 2 weeks instead of 1 time a month? @ TurtleBugDesigns I will assign partners Feb 26

TurtleBugDesigns 02/19/2013 #

I up for doing a swap every 3 weeks! Sounds great!

MamaMay 02/19/2013 #

I have been trying to drum up some interest in the scrap vomit group on Flickr. (FYI I have posted 2 of the packs of the now 20 I have made fully on Flickr so don't peek if you want a surprise!)

whit763 02/19/2013 #

Ok #5 swap is edit so it will be 3 weeks from this swap. Keep leaving comments!

MamaMay 02/20/2013 #

@Whit763 Thanks for commenting on my Flickr! I can't wait to get swapping!

aladyde 02/20/2013 #

Please help me: What is a vomit square? I am German and the only translation I can find for vomit is to throw up.

whit763 02/20/2013 #

@aladyde This vomit square meaning is alot of small sqaures sewed together into a quilt. Hopes this helps

MamaMay 02/20/2013 #

It is also a version of the postage stamp quilt (I say a version because a postage stamp quilt is suppost to have finished squares the size of a stamp and these are quite large for that!)

Vomit is strictly defined as throw up. We are useing it as slag. Whereas vomit is a mix up with no rhyme or reason all your stomachs contents, scrap vomit is a mix up with no rhyme or reason of your fabric squares sewn into a quilt. No real throw up is involved.

MamaMay 02/20/2013 #

LOL, slang not slag!

whiskygirl07 02/20/2013 #

@aladyde there is a link above near the beginning that will take you to a blog or you can google search scrap vomit quilts. Then click images. I think this is the neatest quilt and can't wait to start sewing! I do hope you join our swap. I love germany. Lived in Heidelberg for a year. 'Swap' with you soon! VR, Amy

MamaMay 02/20/2013 #

@whiskygirl07 sadly I think you might have to private swap her. This is USA only.

elsa 02/21/2013 #

When will we get our partners? Just curious.

MamaMay 02/21/2013 #

@elsa

The last day to sign up is the 25 th, so after the 25 th.... Likely the 26 th.

sweetpeamarie2003 02/21/2013 #

I would also like to swap squares more often and possibly with more partners. Count me in!!!

FooFaRaw 02/21/2013 #

Quick Question. I choose to quilt with cotton flannel, as well as quilting cottons. I love the variation in textures. Should I ask my partners their preference, go with only quilting cottons, or mix it in to add to the vomitness?

willap 02/22/2013 #

I am new at this so. We send 49 squares to 3 different people? Does anyone have any idea how much the postage will be?

MamaMay 02/22/2013 #

I think it is 2dollars something. I can weigh mine and check....

whit763 02/22/2013 #

@sweetpeamarie2003 thanks for the ideas. @FooFaRaw I would ask your partners. I know alot just want 100% cotton. @willap It's $1.10 for 50 sqaures in at 6x9 Envelope he last time I went in the middle of Jan.

MamaMay 02/22/2013 #

Yea, but the mail rates changed as of Jan 26 or 27.

MamaMay 02/23/2013 #

I don't have envelopes yet so I haven't weight it yet...

whit763 02/24/2013 #

Tomorrows the last day to sign up! Come on watchers!

MamaMay 02/24/2013 #

I really wish you could see who was watching as well as who signed up. I would love to ask people watching my swaps, "why didn't you join?" And hopefully get some information as to how to better my swaps!

MamaMay 02/25/2013 #

I guess we are looking at getting a blizzard tonight... Might last all week and considering that the snow closed the post office last week and this is suppost to be worst... Well, forgive me and Abby if we can't get it out!

whit763 02/25/2013 #

oh wow! Hope you guys ok and the post office stay open but if you they dont just send when they do lol What state is this? I don't have a tv lol

MamaMay 02/25/2013 #

Kansas and weather people were wrong. At least in my area.

link to weather on my zip

jcmcelhiney 02/25/2013 #

i have never heard it called "vomit" before. and im a quilter. Ive always heard it called a cray quilt, or grandmas squares. but im deffinatly excited about this swap. i have more fabric than i can handle

FooFaRaw 02/25/2013 #

Can't wait! My packets are waiting patiently for your addresses! If anyone is interested in doing personal swaps, let me know. I have a lot of these little guys hanging out around my house and I would love to get rid of them. :-)

twobluecrows 02/25/2013 #

I was thinking of joining, but never got around to going next door to my stash and cutting things out (with the snow and cold and all), and now, I don't have time--so maybe the next round. My quilter-sister is coming up in March so maybe we can make some together if I don't get around to it before then.

I hesitated because it seems like a lot of little pieces for more than one partner, but I guess once I get cutting, it'll pile up fast.

Maybe I'll ask for a Private one-on-one swap to really get me started in March.

Have fun with this one!

imafundork 02/25/2013 #

I'm one of the watchers...I just came back to check it out and I hadn't realized it was to three partners. I don't think I'd be able to send on time as I haven't begun cutting. I think I will have to wait until next time. Have fun ladies!

whit763 02/26/2013 #

thanks @Mamamay for the info. @FooFaRaw I'm glad that your excited and I will be hosting these swaps until people lose interested but hope to atleast make until next jan. @twobluecrows thank you for taking the time to comment, I understand not wanting to go out it the snow & cold! I hope to see you join the #5 swap I am sure you can find some people to do a one on one swap. I will but check out the comments. @imafundork thank you for taking the time to comment, yeah theres 3 partners but it really is easy to make 4 or 5 squares out of scrap fabric and I hope to see you join the #5 swap

elsa 02/26/2013 #

Glad I checked back in ~ didn't realize the post date was coming up so soon! I'll get cracking and get mine posted on Friday!

Teresa50 02/26/2013 #

I am in on the swap. But I don't know who to send them to. Can you help me since I am new at this. I have mine ready to mail but not sure to who and where. Thanks:)

whit763 02/26/2013 #

@teresa50 if you look in the right side near the top you should see this:

Swap member options: Click here when you have sent your items See the partners you send to Rate your partners and coordinator View participants

click on the See partners you send to. then after you have taken the packages to the post office come back on here and then click the "click here when yo have sent your iteams" hope this helps if it doesnt let me know.

whit763 02/27/2013 #

Hey I went to the post office and it was $2.07 for each package to be mailed out. Does any one know how much it would be to mail out of the US?

AbbyB 02/27/2013 #

If you make your squares into 6 piles in an envelope, then it only costs 66cents to mail the envelopes.

MamaMay 02/28/2013 #

You can mail it as an oversized envelope (6 by 9 inch) if you make sure it is under 1/4 an inch thick and get it mailed for 66 cents.

If it is over 1/4 and inch then it counts as a package, not a letter and has to be handled by hand so costs more.

whit763 02/28/2013 #

@Abbyb & @MamaMay thanks for the info/ideas!

elsa 02/28/2013 #

Off to the post office to mail my 3 packages!

elsa 02/28/2013 #

willap 03/ 5/2013 #

I haven"t received my 3rd package yet??

MamaMay 03/ 6/2013 #
