Lil' Valentine Cards

Silly question... if we use the store bought valentines that we used to send out in our classes will they go through the mail ok? I was under the impression that the envelopes didn't meet the mailing size critera for the USPS. Should we plan on putting them in bigger envelopes, especially for international mailing?

I think they should be okay but ask the post office. Otherwise very fun!! I'm in!!! ~westie

I was planning on putting mine in regular sized envelopes just to be sure they got to everyone okay.

According to the U.S. Postal Service website, envelopes must be a minimum of 3-1/2 by 5 inches. Anything smaller than that is not mailable.

About mailing irregular-sized envelopes, the actual wording at the USPS site is "To be eligible for mailing at the postage rates for letters, a piece must be:..." In other words, you can mail other sized envelopes but a "non-machinable surcharge" will be assessed, which is 13 additional cents. This information is useful for other swaps where one might want to create their own envelopes but wondering if they're "mailable". Any envelope is mailable, but if it's not the standard size to pass through automation machines, then an additional charge is required for having to handle it by hand.

For this swap, I think we'd all be better off placing these small envelopes within a bigger one, as paying 13 additional cents beyond the regular 39 cent postage can be silly. But if one really wanted to, you can send the smaller envelopes. One just has to pay more than the 39 cents postage rate for letters.

I agree, I think we'd all be better off just sending them inside of a regular sized mailing envelope. That way we won't have to worry so much about extra postage on ten cards and we also won't have to worry as much about our valentines getting to each other without a problem. :*)

Hello, Has anyone found boxes of valentines at the store yet? I looked at Target last night and they didn't have any. Maybe I'm just too early..... can't contain my excitement!!!

Do you have a Michael's where you live? I noticed they had theirs out last weekend. I'm lucky, I work in a gift shop so I can just get mine there, lol. :*)

JuliW, I got your lil' Valentine today. :) I think my mailman is secretly involved with swap-bot. Today I was in the kitchen, where I could see through the house to the front door. As my mailman walked up he wasn't looking at the mail, BUT right whn he went to put the mail in the box, he paused! He then did a little flip, which at the time I thought nothing of it. I did a few more things and went to the box. I saw a "bill" and another white envelope the same size as the first under it and thought, "Oh no good mail today" :(. THEN! I went to look at the other and I saw the ladybug, I began to smile :)!!!!!!! Like I said I think he is in out it too. (I give him Christmas gifts :) wonder if that has anything to do with it?)

i have been getting cards the last week or so. i love it! thank you everyone who sent me one, they are really cheering me up. at first i was going to wait to open them until valentines day but since i have no patience (ha!) i opened them up right away.
