Here is the information. I received this from a friend of mine who is an avid postcard collector! I just learned a few days ago that one of my favorite postal clerks who used to LOVE seeing all my postcards and commenting on them, has been hospitalized since late August. The last time I saw her, she had just been promoted to mail carrier supervisor at my local post office - a position she had been wanting for some time. Of course in this new position she would no longer be working the counter which meant I probably wouldn't be seeing her anymore. Over the past number of months, I have thought about her numerous times and kept meaning to ask about her. Well, I finally remembered and the news I got was not good. Back in late August, Debbie went to her doctor because she had been having difficulty swallowing. Tests were run and it was discovered she had a huge, cancerous tumor in her esophagus! The tumor was removed but the cancer had spread to other parts of her body. She was unable to eat anything by mouth and was put on a feeding tube. Since then, she has endured weeks of Chemotherapy, Radiation treatment, been in and out of the hospital, has been violently ill and just hasn't been doing very well at all. Although I didn't know Debbie that well, I always enjoyed watching her face light up when she'd see me come into the post office to mail cards. She loved looking at the ones I was sending and always wanted to see the ones I had picked up from my mailbox. She especially liked beautiful beaches (anything to do with the water) beautiful flowers, art cards of women, and children from around the world. I would love to shower Debbie with postcards!! According to her very good friend, another postal worker, Debbie was receiving lots of cards in the beginning but it seems she isn't getting that many now. So, if you would like to participate in this showering of postcards, please send one with a little note of encouragement, a funny saying or quote, something inspirational or just tell her hello and that you hope she is having a good day. Please mention somewhere on the card that it is being sent by request of Dede, the "postcard lady" as that's what they call me at the post office. It would be great if you put this on your calendar and maybe every two weeks or so, send her another card so they will keep coming on a regular basis. I so appreciate your help with this and know it will brighten Debbie's stay in the hospital! Please send all cards to: Debbie McGriff 6631 S. High Street Centennial, CO 80121 Thank you!! So for this swap, you will send a postcard to Debbie, and a postcard to your one partner. Please make sure you put the name of the swap and your name on the postcards. |
