Just a thought...a shoe box can be pretty varried in size...for instance, a kids shoe box is MUCH smaller than a boot box. Maybe you could include some basic "Length X Width X Height" requirements to make sure none of the somewhat shady people sneak in only intending to send a child's shoebox of stuff...

Would a large flat rate box qualify? Or is that too small?

Why not just use one of those plastic $1.00 shoe boxes you can get from Wal*Mart to the Dollar Store. They are all basically the same size, will cost a dollar, and the person receiving will also be able to use the box for other things?

I was also thinking about the flat rate box (the tall one, not the flat one). I believe it's bigger than a shoe box and it would cost less than 9 bucks to ship.

i think both flat rate boxes are simliar in size. the flat one is longer but the squarer one is deeper so they equal out when you think about it

Here's a thought - why not use one of those photo/video boxes that you can get at Walmart or Michaels? They are about the size of a shoe box and have the added advantage of being very pretty. Wouldn't it be fun to get such a pretty box filled with goodies in the mail? Then your partner can use it as a photobox later. And they're only about $3 each. I've gotten them as low as $1 on sale!

Ok, I went shopping for those photo boxes yesterday after leaving the message above. That must have been some sale I got that other photo box at for $1 because yesterday I couldn't find one for less than $3.99 :)

I know what you mean TexasQuilter. If you're willing to go to all the chains (Joanns, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore, etc.) you can usually find them onsale at ONE of them. The cheapest ones I got lately were from Marshalls (T.J. Maxx would probably have them as well). They were around 2.99. And they were gorgeous.

taht would work if you want to use that...but for ppl whocant find them...they can use regular boxes :D

I absolutely love this swap idea. And definately like the fact that there is NO "I dont want this" and "I would like this"!!! At times that can be a little annoying. *grin.

slamophile, I believe elizabeth is refering to the Swap-bot rating system. If a swapper goes above and beyond the swap requirements, i.e. sending something extra, putting special effort into it, they can earn a heart. I'd say she's encouraging us all to put in that extra effort and make it really great.

This swap sounds like alot of fun I can not wait I also love that people can not tell you what to buy or what not to buy also there is a flat rate shoe box size that you can get from your post office or you can go to the USPS web site and get the flate rate and other items free just go to the web site and click on the shipping supply and it's all there good luck on the boxes

I think it is a good idea to not list what you would like as do several others. :) People have blogs and profiles and if you are at all snoopy, you can find out a lot.

However, I do think people should list any allergies here - this might prevent a purchase that would make both the sender and recepient feel bad. Whatever allergy - food, wool, etc...

Im glad there is a big effort being made here to weed out those bad swappers who seem to keep getting into swaps somehow. I hate it when I end up with one of them as a partner and know Im not gonna be getting anything! It sucks!

I will probably use a plastic shoe box. They are easy to find. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. Most places sell them for a dollar. Great way to ship the items and you can cover with brown paper and ship it that way. Since most of my shoe boxes are big... Please make sure your profiles are filled in with things you like so it makes it easier to find stuff. I think the profiles here need to list likes and dislikes. Instead of crafts and movies. Most of the swaps are not based on a craft someone does or a movie they watch.

ohh plastic shoeboxes would be cool...that way you could use them for storage and stuff later...or maybe you could even SEND them in a plastic shoebox...no other box or anything..this will be interesting

That would be a good idea for a swap. Decorate a plastic shoebox for someone. and fill with some goodies like a movie night or relaxing bath or something like that with a cool theme. Your partner can choose a theme and you can deco the box and fill it to go with a theme.

for a theme box - how about one showing off our home town/state/country. I know that in the US most stores are starting to carry a lot of the tourist related stuff, and I've found my state information centers on the highway and the Tourist Agency to be a fantastic source of FREE material.

I love the great energy that is going in this swap - it's been great to see other's thinking.

Just FYI, the post office now has a new "shoebox" size flat rate Priority box. If you have a large post office they may have some in stock, but I think they have to be ordered from the usps.com website(free as are all priority boxes). Cyn

WOW! I hadn't done much more than think about what to do for this swap and here came my package from YooperHill today. It is wonderful! Filled with all kinds of goodies each one wrapped. I haven't even finished unwrapping them all. I just come in here every once in a while and unwrap another one. It is so much fun.

i received a notice from the post office saying that a parcel addressed to me had become separated from its label in pittsburgh. i assume it's from a swap and i'm trying to figure out whose it was- so if you sent me something that might have stopped off in pittsburgh, i need to know what it looks like so i can have the post office try and find it!

I had fun making my box for my partner (and she liked it, which made me happy!) so I feel ya, prpldy. I just sent a message to my sender to see if there's an issue. I'm hoping there isn't--if so, it would be the fourth swap in a row that I've been stiffed.

my sending partner also marked sent (and did ages ago) but I've yet to receive anything. big sigh.

I'm at 2 (huge ones) in a row with no-sends. Let's see, that would be around $40 - $50. I haven't signed up for any swaps in so long just because of this...too afraid to get flaked on again.

Yeah, 4th in a row. My partner marked "sent" but nothing yet, and no response to my messages. I've got one more swap on my list that I'm compiling things for (and again, probably going overboard) and depending on that swap, I might be bidding adieu.

This will only be my second stiffing, but I think I'm with you on this one, Ms. Pants. I have signed up for a few more, but most are considerably less expensive for shipping. Nice, but not near as fun as one like this!

I can't beleive there are still about 12 no sends on here this was a very fun swap for me to join and send off, i'm waiting also but at least my partner told me it would be late. I didnt receive from another swap also I just hope the person is ok, you never know whats going on behind someones door in the real world.

i have contacted the partners of people who have not marked sent. Ironically some of the people not marked sent are partners of OTHER people who have yet to mark send!!!!

Just to let you know, my partner marked her package as sent, but I haven't received anything. It was marked sent, to the best of my recollection, AFTER I sent an email asking if was sent, but lost in the mail.

Well, it's a done deal on receiving a box from my partner. hpaisan32 was suppose to send something to me and not sure how in the world she got into this swap with her lowwwwwwwww points!! She has a lot of no-sends. Oh well...tis is life once again. Oh, I have e-mailed her a few times and she hasn't been on her website either. I'm now forgetting that I signed up for this one.

I think a lot of people sign up way ahead of time and THEN the no-sends come in after partners are distributed. I haven't heard from my sender either. She was moving a month ago--hasn't posted on her blog or flickr. Ahh, such is life. I'm just going to complete the last swap I've signed up for and move on, I suppose.

I PM'd my partner but haven't received any response. I've dropped out of the other swaps I was in because this is two biggish ones in a row I've been flaked on. I am disappointed, to say the least.

I haven't received anything either - I did get an email from my partner about three weeks ago letting me know she would be a few days late. She marked sent a while ago - I'm going to email her again now to see what's up.

I just checked the profile of my partner to send to me and it has been deleted....:( Girlymom! was her handle on here. I'm a little bit annoyed and bummed about it because I spent a lot of time and effort into to packing a package for my partner and now I GET SQUAT!!! though my partner supposedly clicked on SENT, how am I to know she did...

I know what you mean...what even gets me more than me not receiving after send a great package.....is that the one I sent to I sent an awesome package and she even acknowledge how great it was...but then she didn't send to her partner...at least it is still marked un-send. I will NOT sign up for any more swaps that are large dollar amounts. It hurts to much to be flaked on all the time, but I can handle the smaller ones...like ATC, etc. This is the 2nd large dollar one for me and with shipping and the cost....I'm out about $70 now at the minimum.

I know I am so horribly late - but my package has FINALLY went out to winemakerssister.
