What's an altered playing card then?

So basically take a playing card and do whay you will with it! Stick bits on, cut bits out, paint, draw, stamp..... The possibilities are endless as long as the card remains the same size.

Do the playing cards have to be ATC sized (2.5 x 3.5)?

I've never tried an 'altered' thing either, but have always admired the images I have seen, so I am going to take the bull by the horns and have a go....

Cool! I have an incomplete deck that is just a smidgen too small to qualify as a true ATC and I'm glad to be able to use them. This will be a great way to get my feet wet in the world of ATC. Thanks for this.

what do you think about an APC doll? I have made these before and they are great fun! I'll send up a picture if anyone is interested in what I mean...(btw, the doll folds up into the same size size as the card, whis usually the same size of an ATC) susi

I have admired the ATC's and other altered items on here, but not being an "artist" I was too intimidated to give it a go. However...(deep breath) I think this is the one for me!! I will need all of the time given so I can make them, fret, remake them, and then make extras to send just in case I really screwed up!! LOL!!!!

So are standard US playing cards ATC sized? I've been looking at my old packs and new ones in the stores and here (UK) the standard width seems to be 2.25".

Although this is a beginners swap, please let's still try to do our best. My other half received (in a non beginners swap) APC's with nothing more than old personal photos sellotaped on O.o

A cool idea to try is sandpapering the card to remove some of the shine and rubbing chalk in.

Another is to soak the cards in tea or coffe. Dry them out of course :)

Could we use round cards? Or are you wanting the more traditional ATC size?

inkybru, your APCs arrived today. They are wonderful - very imaginative and creative. I love Bogey, of course, as Casablanca is there in my profile. What you couldn't know is that I look out of my window here at a 120 year old pear tree, so the pears are very appropriate for me too. Don't worry about the colours - there is a big difference between, say, a notebook with a sludgy colour cover and using the real colours of a natural object. Thanks!

P.S. Sharon wrote on the envelope, for customs purposes, "Cards. No value." How totally untrue!!! :-)
