Description:

Once again, it's that time of year -- time for the groundhog to make his appearance! This will be our fourth year in a row of exchanging Groundhog Day cards.

You will have two partners. You are to send a greeting card or postcard commemorating Groundhog Day to each one. The card may be handmade or store-bought, humorous or serious, in an envelope or not (if it's a postcard), but it should reflect the GROUNDHOG tradition (as opposed to Imbolc, Candlemas, or other observances on or around Feb. 2nd).

If you choose to and are able to, it is permissable to include something additional that is related to the occasion, but sending a card is all that is required or expected.

Partners will be assigned on January 23. Cards should be mailed as soon as possible after that to ensure their arrival before Groundhog Day on February 2nd. Groundhog Day cards received after Groundhog Day are not fun.

Minimum rating average of 4.0 is required to participate. Newbies allowed as long as your profile is fabulously filled out and you pm me before sign-up deadline with a promise that you will not flake. Potential flakers of any type, please abstain. I reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason.

From Wikipedia:

"Groundhog Day is a traditional festival celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2. It is a cross-quarter day, midway between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox.

"In traditional weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow because the weather is bright and clear, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks."

(Googling "Groundhog Day" will bring up many, many pages of information and resources, not to mention ideas.)

I just happen to live 25 minutes from Punxsutawney, so I'm definitely going to join this swap.

My hubby's birthday is on Groundhog's Day 2/2 so I'm thinking of joining.

I received a card for this swap but I did not sign up for it. Anyone explain that please?
