Description:

Hello Everyone! This is my first time to host a swap!

At the end of this month, I will be traveling to Boston to join Children's Craniofacial Association for our Annual Family Retreat. Our organization helps children and grown-ups with facial differences, usually caused by certain syndromes. You could call them "deformities," but we hate that word!

Anyway, our tagline is "Beyond the Face is a Heart!" and we have little silicone bracelets that we wear that says that.

This is a great message for everyone, whether you have facial differences or not. Lots of us struggle with our self-esteem, be it our weight, our hair, or even our (cute!) freckles.

So ... I would like to make an ATC that represents loving yourself and appreciating the person inside.

Your only requirement is to somehow work the phrase "Beyond the Face is a Heart" into the ATC. You can even put it on the back if you'd like.

You'll have 1 partner ... but here is the twist. I am going to ask you to make TWO ATCs. The other one, I would like you to send to our organization's Headquarters in Dallas. I will then ask them to distribute them to the kids we serve.

We provide financial assistance to kids traveling to surgery for things insurance doesn't cover like airfare, hotel rooms, gas, and food costs. They families are often traveling multiple times a year and missing work. Our financial assistance helps ease that burden.

I will ask our Program Director that when she mails out a check, that she includes the ATC to the family so that the little kiddo can take it as their good luck charm to the hospital. When I was a kid, I always had a good luck charm that I held when I got my IV and when they rolled me back to the OR. I'm asking YOU to make one for a very special kid!!!

Newbies welcome with a filled out profile! No recent 1s or 3s without explanation.

USA only due to the rushed deadline. The retreat is June 24-27. They leave Dallas June 24 (last mail day will be the 23rd).

After you've signed up, I'll message the address for your 2nd ATC to our headquarters!

I am not in the US so cannot do the swap-Love the idea of giving ATCs to the kids. is this someting that could be continued ? If so, is there a person or an address we could send them to?

wow...this is your FIRST swap???? You are amazingly good at wording at it and including all the info needed. Most newbie hosts tend to leave some stuff out and keep the descriptions rather sort.

I'll do another one that is international after our retreat! Thanks everyone!

I am beyond excited about this swap.. ONE issue though.. Can someone please give me some advice on where to find blank ATC's?! I've checked local craft stores and they don't carry them. Any suggestions?

I look forward to this swap. Having lived with a child with disabilities, I know that this will brighten another child's day. Kudos to our hostess!

Hi Cassiebsf, I am not sure about blank ones... I have seen them cut out of cardstock and glued on playing cards if that helps! :)

beavertondeb 06/ 9/2010 #

You can cut blanks from recycled cards, plain cardstock, used file folders, printed cardstock or just use playing cards as the base and glue your designs to them. There are no rules, other than the size...2 1/2 by 3 1/2.

Thank you all for your encouragement and sweet words! I am so excited about this swap! :)

I talked to our Program Director yesterday and she is so thrilled. She can't wait to see them.

She (and I) extend our thanks! :)

A small kindness is like throwing a stone into a pool. It creates a ring that spreads wider and wider. Please join in and spread a small kindness into something larger. :)

Thank you all for the helpful hints! I will be done with mine by tomorrow, I believe and I am just itching to send them out! Love this swap! :)

This is a really great cause and I would love to join in on the swap! May I ask if both of our ATC's should be the same? Thank you! :)

erica265 06/14/2010 #

AnaDee ... it's up to you! You can make them the same or different. However you feel!

If my partner sees this, please send both cards to the coordinator's organization. I'd love to see a photo or scan of your work if possible, but would get more enjoyment knowing it went to make a little kid happy! :)
