During the last week of school, my eighth grade English teacher gave all of her students a list of advice for becoming an adult. One example of what she said was "Never give yourself away," and she explained that no one owns you, not parents, friends, or boy/girlfriends, and you need to base your decisions on what's best for you, not anything else. She also gave each of us a copy of Ralph Waldo Emerson poem; To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. In this swap, you will send your partner a list of at least three pieces of advice that have helped you succeed in life. Please include an explanation for each piece of advice! Remember, you want to be helpful to your partner and send them advice that might change their life, or causethem to think about things differently! PS: Decorated, pretty letters are strongly encouraged! Send what you would love to recieve! |
