I am a designer. I design primarily for machine embroidery applique. My HappNstance designs are based off of hand embroidery designs from the 20s and 30s. My husband's grandfather owned a factory in Berlin that stamped linens with designs for hand embroidery. In 1935, the Nazi authorities took the factory over and the family fled. My mother-in-law was the only survivor and she had a several items including catalog from left over from the factory that she has donated to the Jewish museum in Berlin. I am using the designs from the catalog for my applique designs.
I have a husband, two daughters, and two dogs. My eldest daughter showed some interest in quilting so we joined the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild together. I knew she would meet younger quilters and it has been a success. She has also gone to quilt market with me the past two markets. Needless to say, she loves it!
Other than designing and making samples for my business, I love the fabrics from the new designers and I am playing around with paper piecing and modern designs. I love bright colors, and I'm very partial to mixing them with grays, blacks and whites. I post most of my efforts on Instagram. You can follow me there, fabriconfetti.
I am constantly listening to books as I sew or work on my longarm. I am currently listening to the new Jodi Piccolt book, Leaving Time. I just finished Meg Wolitzer's book, The Interestings. I also love John Green's books.
