I am really, really bad at writing these things so this is a work in progress. My preference is towards simple and classic rather than cute, but I have been known to hop on a trend and go for it.
I am not religious or spiritual in any way, shape or form. Please, do not send me anything pushing your beliefs and I won't do the same. I have zero tolerance for pseudoscience and mumbo jumbo.
My mini schnauzer is my third child. In fact, I often call my children by the dog's name by accident.
Please note that it is an offense under Australian law to send certain things in the international mail, eg seeds, leaves, anything with citrus and apple peel, nuts, wood, something that could have had contact with soil, etc, and there is a high chance that your letter will be confiscated. If in doubt, don't send it.
At one point, my musical tastes went back a century for every decade I got older, until I was really into Hildergard von Bingen. I then pulled myself into the 21st century and now like indi rock and folk too. I don't mind the odd musical, especially Wicked. My favourite composer of all time is J.S. Bach.
Mostly I read nonfiction, particularly if it has a science bent. I am a member of a book club at the Queensland Art Gallery that forces me to read a wide range of literature, a lot of it well outside my comfort zone. I love recipe books as bedtime reading. History, philosophy, natural history, learning about how the world and universe works are all fascinating subjects. Finished reading 'Dark Emu' by Bruce Pascoe. Currently reading 'Love and Hunger' by Charlotte Wood.
I don't watch a lot of movies, but generally enjoy a bit of escapism rather than something too heavy. Recently I have enjoyed Gravity, Red and Red 2 (Helen Mirren ftw!), Saving Mr Banks, the LOR trilogy and The Hobbit, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy (Original Swedish version), Inception. I just saw 'Sunshine on Leith' and it is awesome!
Again, not a big TV enthusiast. I do enjoy 'The Big Bang Theory' but it is turning (has turned) into 'Friends'... I love 2 Australian series, "Offspring' that is soon to start season 4, and 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'. Give me a documentary and I am a very happy little vegemite (except I hate vegemite - does that mean I'm not a real Aussie?).
I enjoy photography, and by extension scrapbooking. I also love cross stitch, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be. If letter writing was a craft, it would be my favourite. Writing with a fountain pen enhances my experience of letter writing, but I can't say if it will enhance your experience as a letter reader. I aspire to become a Mail Artist. I want to explore art journalling,
Despite aspiring to be an inner minimialist and collect experiences rather than things, I seem to be in urgent need of a good de clutter. My family think I should join Hoarders Anonymous because of my scrapbook supplies; I claim I have a use for it all. I like Project Life, Tim Holtz and am going through a Heidi Swapp phase. The same could be said about stationery - paper, pens (especially fountain pens) and ink. There is also a rather large cookbook and cake pan and biscuit (cookie) cutter collection that is dying to be used. Oh my!
I love the thought of travel, I love planning travel, I love being somewhere new and different, I love being home after travelling. I just don't like the physical act of travelling. Airports freak me out and I am terrified of missing my plane. But once I'm in that plane, I marvel that I am sitting in an armchair in the sky and someone is bringing me food and drinks. I have been to New Zealand, Singapore, Austria, Italy, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Japan. Next year I am going to Ecuador.
I drink coffee and tea. Although I prefer black teas, I discovered roasted brown tea on a trip to Japan and enjoy it in winter. “I drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it – unless I’m thirsty.†Thanks, Widow Cliquet. I also enjoy a good red in winter and a refreshing white when it's hot, but this is a sad blanc free zone. Champagne, cocktails and chauffeurs - oh, if only. I now this makes me sound like a soak, but I believe in almost all things in moderation. Please drink responsibly, even tea.
I saw this on 'flyingfox's' profile, and thought it was a lovely way to celebrate the nice things. First Swap Sent: 21 May 2014 First Rating 5: 23 May 2014 First Heart: 23 May 2013
