Description:

The holiday season is celebrated in so many different ways all over the world...and though we're adults, it's always lovely to learn something new! For this swap, you are invited to share a seasonal picture book you love with your partner.

The book should be illustrated, and may be any sort of seasonal December story, including Hannukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, St. Lucia Day, etc...or even just a simple winter tale. If you have a partner in another country, it might be nice to choose a book that reflects your own traditions, or is a classic holiday story from your own country. If you have a partner whose background is similar to yours, it might be fun to choose a more obscure book you enjoy that he or she may not have heard of. This swap is sender's choice, but please do share a book that is meaningful to you in some way and enclose a note explaining why you chose your book.

Edited: the book may be new or secondhand, but must be in clean, very good condition.

You will have 3 weeks to find a book to send. Please remember this is an international group...and therefore for this swap, books written in languages other than English are permitted, just so long as the sender includes a translation or summary of what the book is about. How exciting it would be to receive beautiful children's books from other countries!

Big thanks to @Merimax for her help with this swap idea. :)

I love this idea! We spend christmas at the beach or at a local freshwater creek. Plus, we have a cold lunch.

Oh, neat! I've always wondered what it would be like to have a warm weather Christmas...

Winters have always meant dreadful cold and possible snow for me until we moved to California a few years ago. For our first holiday here, we decided to go to the beach on Christmas Day just to be contrary. It was chilly and the wind whipped everything around, but we saw a family setting up a huge cloth-covered table and opening up their presents in grand style...very fun!

I love this idea too - I'm from Australia too, so cold Xmas lunch outdoors, followed by beach swimming :)

Wonderful!

We live in Wisconsin (Northern US) so Christmas almost always involves snow and cold. I grew up in a warmer climate so I enjoy these frosty winters!

I'll watch for now to see what kind of books I can find here. This is a great swap idea! Which language does "Vesel BoΓ…ΒΎič" come from? Oh, and it's Frohe Weihnachten in German, in case you're interested in more translations.

thehappyhoneybee 10/18/2010 #

Slovenian. :)

It'll be interesting to see how many countries we get in this swap! I hope everyone will post a photo of the books you send your partner in our group Flickr once they've been chosen (or received, if you want it to be a surprise). I think it would be fun if we could see them all in one place and compare all the different books.

I love the idea. I'm just not sure whether I will able to find a book in time, but I'll watch out.

BTW : God Jul in Swedish (and a tiny little spelling error in Kerstfeest ;-), but the Dutch translation is much appreciated :-))

Argh, that's what happens when you rely upon the internet to translate things! :P
