First off, I’m vegan, so that means no animal products, please.
Food wise, that's no meat/fish/dairy/eggs - basically anything that comes from an animal.
Yarn-wise, I prefer that anything purchased new is plant-based or non-animal (e.g., cotton, bamboo, nice acrylic). That said, if you make something from (or pass along) stash yarn, I’m okay with it being non-vegan if necessary. Even though I don’t purchase wool any more, I still have tons of it in my stash, which I use.
This feels like a nerdy version of What Color is My Parachute? Would it be brown, like a certain coat? Or blue, like my favorite police box? Maybe Ravenclaw-striped? Summarizing my personal nerddom seems pretty tough!
Loves, likes and all that nonsense...
Colors: anything but pastels, but I do love bright, saturated color.
Furry friends: I have a chubby 9lb minpin named Emma and love animals (as you might imagine). I anticipate being a dog lady in the winter of my life, as I do not have children and love my dog that much.
Yarny goodness: I’m up for whatever gauge, preferably following my guidelines at the top concerning vegan-ness… I do love knitting socks and am just starting to weave, so finer yarns will probably get used. Novelty yarns do NOT float my boat.
Books: avid reader of fantasy, but also love history and random nonfiction, Jane Austen, learning new things. Love cute old books but also surprised myself with how much I love my Nook. For book swaps I would totally love a Nook book, if possible, as I read way more that way than paper these days!
Geek games: faves like Agricola, Power Grid, Pandemic, 7 Wonders, Tichu, Zombie Dice. I also play weekly games with NYEEK and monthly games with NerdNYC.
TV: Joss Whedon is my master (my shirt says so). I love Firefly, Angel, Buffy and even Dollhouse. Start Trek Voyager is the best, but Picard is dreamy. I had a dream about Tom Paris last night, which was odd. Scott Bakula makes me want to like Enterprise. I grew up watching Tom Baker as The Doctor. Even though David Tennant is my favorite, I would still like a Jelly Baby while I finish knitting my striped scarf. Battlestar Galactica was the best show ever until season 4, at which point I don’t know what happened. Apollo should have hung out in a towel more, perhaps? I like Stargate but couldn’t get into Babylon 5. The IT crowd rocks my world and Big Bang Theory makes me giggle (although “bazinga†does not).
Yummies (vegan): tea (any, and I do love weird flavored tea), anything vinegary or fermented, weird asian snacks, seaweed, panda raspberry licorice… mostly savories. Craft beers (love sours!), anything not too hoppy. I like to eat and drink adventurously, and aside from the vegan thing will try just about anything as long as it is made of neither beets nor asparagus… eww.
Creative: knitting, weaving, pottery, writing (I’m working on a YA/fantasy novel and essays). Active stuff: I’m new to, but really like yoga. I skateboard and roller skate and snowboard. I like to garden.
Totally random: I love fun socks, very fine point pens, vintage handkerchiefs, Jane Austen, Asian cinema (NYAFF!), salt/sugar scrubs, project bags, hipstamatic, thick hand cream (think l’occitaine shea butter), making terrariums, sparkle nail polish, bubble tea. I’m a bit of a neat freak and love to organize/label/reorganize. I really get the purse/toolbox cleaning in Amelie. I’m also in stuff throwing out/selling/giving away mode - that said, I still own a lot of stuff and have a very large room full of books.
Just a few things I really don't like...
Non-vegan food items, for me or my pup. So that means no animal products, like meat or dairy derivatives.
Pastel colors. Ick.
Things/knick knacks that don’t really have a function, like little figurines, toys or random decorations. I really can't stress this one enough. I've had a couple of swap partners in the past that clearly didn't read my profile and sent a bunch of junk that just went in the trash. Quite disappointing.
I hate sewing. And clowns.
