Sorry I haven't been on much lately. Personal stuff, likely to resolve by late Feb. January 5, 2011
I'm female, married (no kids by choice), 2 cats, 1 dog. I am originally from Delaware, but have now been living in VA for almost as long as I lived in DE. I live near, and work in, DC. I'm a technical writer. I like spicy food. I'm either really cool or a creepy girl, depending on your viewpoint.
Books - I read a lot, and all types of books - right now I'm reading another free download. My favorite book varies, but might be Sacred Arts of Haitian Vodu (a wonderful catalog to a museum exhibit that toured the country some years ago), or Moby Dick, by Herman Melville, or Warlock of the Witch World, by Andre Norton. (I discovered the truth about the classics a long time ago - any book still in print after 100 years is probably a pretty good read.) I read science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, romance (supernatural and historical, not contemporary), non-political non-fiction, craft books, etc. I'm okay with vampires, but not with Twilight. Loved Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Enjoyed J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Currently reading a lot of steampunk.
My favorite art medium is polymer clay, and I do a lot of things with it other than ATCs - sculpture, jewelry, decorative boxes...
Movies - I like Hellboy and Hellboy 2, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Sherlock Holmes (the recent one, speaking of steampunk...), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Pathfinder (the original, not the atrocious Hollywood version), any Hammer Studios horror (but the all time best is Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter), Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast, Ladyhawke...
TV - Umm, we don't have tv input. I've seen some series on DVD, but I'm not really into what's on now - I'm always a few years behind. I like Dexter, and the 1st season of Lost (that's all I've seen), and I adore shark specials (not that I go in the ocean, mind you - there are sharks out there!).
Music - We lost our last good radio station a while ago, so I'm really behind. I love Shriekback (an 80's British band), worldbeat, and ethnotechno. I listen to a lot of celtic music.
Likes (this is a get to know me list) - tattoos (I have more than a few), mermaids, dark rich colors, steampunk, maple sugar, historic costume (pre-1914), Thai food, hand-carved rubberstamps, sushi, art dolls, dark chocolate with fruit flavor, dogs, grapefruit, cats large and small, pottery, polymer clay stuff, lemon and sour apple Jolly Ranchers, velvet, lace, shiny things, Georgette Heyer, theater, Shakespeare, crows and ravens, zentangles, the Vertigo line of comic books, Hellboy and B.P.R.D., Planetary, museums, printmaking, 7 Gypsies, handmade books, Japanese cloth - particularly indigo, ikat, "Dutch wax" batik - particularly indigo, old photographs...
Dislikes - Cutesy stuff, spongebob (gives me the heebie-jeebies), Disney (what can I say, I just don't like the mouse), and (delicate subject here) Christian stuff - 'cause I'm not.
What you'd find in my purse (current inventory): Kindle (stamps stored in the cover), wallet, keys, work ID, transit card, sunglasses, lip balm, pens.
