Hi there! My name is Maggie and I'm from Massachusetts (USA). This sums me up in a nutshell:
I went to school to become a doctor... ...ended up studying sexual education... ...worked in a tattoo shop for a while... ...ran a website business for tattoo artists... ...spent as much time as possible schmoozin' and boozin' with one of my favorite bands (www.DrunkStuntmen.com)... ...totally saved lives in an ER... ...and am now saving people's sex lives (www.pplm.org) and am going to be going back to school for neuroscience to study music's effect on the brain...
Γ’β¬Β¦funny how life works.
Depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Lately, I've been rocking out in my car a lot to Wolfmother, Nikka Costa, Duffy, and KT Tunstall. For just rocking out in general, the Drunk Stuntmen are always fun (especially live, but I'm a little biased). When I just want to mellow out, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, and Aimee Mann are always good. For when I'm in really mellow mood, Massive Attack, Portishead, and Sneaker Pimps help me out. For when I'm angry at the world, Tool, Killswitch Engage, Monster Magnet, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, and Queens of the Stone Age. For when I'm feeling like rockin' out Celtic style, Seven Nations and Ashley MacIsaac help me out. For when I feel like listening to music I grew up with, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Traffic, Jethro Tull, Van Morrison, Simon & Garfunkel, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, and many more. Of course, when I'm feeling really nostalgic I throw on the Pointer Sisters and dance around my house (just like I did when I was little - isn't it fortuitous that my favorite album by them was released the same year I was born). This, of course, doesn't even begin to describe my musical collection or what I listen to on a regular basis, but it's enough to give you a sense.
I love reading, but unfortunately rarely have the time to do so for fun. When I do, I enjoy reading pretty much anything and everything. Lately, I've been gravitating towards anything having to do with the brain/neuroscience. Recently, I've been reading mostly non-fiction, but every once in a while it's nice to throw some fiction in for a change of pace. I love being exposed to new authors, especially when recommended by someone who loves their work. I also love reading children's books as an adult because I usually walk away with a completely different story than from when I was young. I never judge a book by the first few pages, but rather open it to a random page somewhere in the middle (because sometimes books can take a little while to get going).
