About Me

I am taking a step back from Swap-Bot for a while. I have realised that with two young children, I just don't have the time to devote to it and I really don't want to find myself in a position where I have to let anyone down. We're also emigrating back to Australia next year so things are going to get even busier.

I will keep up with a couple of groups, but it might take me a year or so until I come back to swapping with the enthusiasm that I used to.

Favorite Crafts

I love cross stitch, knitting and crafting although right now, I really don't get a lot of crafting done. Children make sure of that!

Favorite Books

I am a book collector also. I have well over 1300 books at home (paper ones - I just can't get into the eBook thing) and love collecting second hand books.

I read most things, but I particularly love * history and historical fiction (that is what I am writing for my MA dissertation)

  • Australiana

  • literary fiction

  • classics

  • art books and art theory (my previous MA was in Art history)

  • popular science

Favorite Music

Classical and 1980s. I also like Jazz and music from the 1920s-1940s.

In my younger days, I loved dance music (mostly from the early to mid 1990s) but I don't listen to it much now unless I want a trip down memory lane.

Loves...

  • Crafting and crafty stash
  • Anything for Journalling, Smash Books or Junk Journals - especially vintage ephemera or ephemera from other countries.
  • Anything cross stitch related - floss (DMC or Anchor), charts, kits, bobbins.
  • Vintage knitting patterns
  • Stationery
  • Letter sets and note cards
  • Stickers
  • Washi Tape
  • Cats (I have 4)
  • Horses
  • Books, reading and anything book related, especially bookmarks, reading journals or book plates.
  • Running, especially marathons
  • Good food and wine, although I don't like cooking myself.
  • Beer
  • Nature and the outdoors
  • Beaches
  • Sunshine
  • Lasting friendships
  • Blank notebooks
  • Coloured pens and pencils
  • Tigers
  • Second-hand books with notes in the margins
  • Art, especially early Renaissance and Avant-garde
  • Steampunk

Not so keen on...

  • Anything overtly religious. I am not religious and although I respect the choice of others, I prefer it not to be pressed on me.
  • Television. We don't have one so it isn't something I am that interested in. Although I do watch movies and I have to admit I am quite addicted to Game of Thrones...
  • Spiders
  • Snakes
  • Celebrities and celebrity culture
  • Badly written fiction, especially Chicklit.

Finally...

I will always do my very best here on Swap-Bot, and I will try to ensure that whatever I send makes you happy. If you have any problems at all, or if for some reason my swap doesn't arrive, please contact me straight away before you rate and I will do everything in my power to get it rectified as quickly as I can.

I tend to be generous with hearts - basically my rule is, if I can see that real effort has gone into the swap, I will give a heart.

Comment: Sorry that computer issues and holidays delayed my response! I completely agreed with your letter about Thoreau -- it was only after I discovered that he was a very entertaining travel writer that I felt like I could read a piece all the way through :) Check out his trip to Quebec -- I have been there, and his portrayal of Scots guards at the Citadel was classic ... I nearly split my sides laughing at his speculations on their chances in a kilt versus long underwear! I would love to do 1:1 book reviews/ challenges with you once you are settled again -- family life. Nuts. But I have so enjoyed these swaps :)

Comment: Thanks so much for the swap and your sweet letter. :) I'm just about over this cold, I'm at about 95%, so I'll take it. It's been forever it seems, since I felt completely myself! Hope all is well with you!

Comment: I'm so glad you enjoyed the book, especially since it held such significance for you. If you'd like to try Asimov beyond the three books you have (if you can find time with your little ones!) I recommend the Lije Baley series starting with Caves of Steel.

Comment: Thanks for your lovely well-thought-out letter -- I feel that if we put our two letters together we synthesize something. Of course, mine is less well thought out and messier! I did enjoy reading about Huxley and reading Huxley; thanks for hosting a thought-provoking swap!

Comment: Thank you for your letter! I love your analysis of LOTF. I read that in high school and i think I have been afraid to reread it, afraid to loose the magic of the first read, similar to how you were telling me about your past experiences. thanks again for the letter! loved it

Comment: I know exactly what you mean. I did the same thing for my Roulette book - picking it up and then putting it back down. It was an excellent book but for some reason being on a deadline made me procrastinate on it. Thank you for your amazing review of March! It sounds like an excellent book!

Comment: I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the book. I thought it sounded good but I don't know how long it will take me to get to it because like you my TBR list is a mile long...maybe more. Happy swapping!

Comment: I also read The Age of Innocence and really enjoyed it. I had many of the same feelings about it as you did, although once Newland married May, I was glad that he didn't leave her to go be with Ellen - I just thought he should never have married her in the first place! :) Thanks for your review - I really enjoyed reading it.
