My name is Carrie, and a friend introduced me to this site to see about various letterwriting swaps, because I would like to handwrite more often. I might check out some of the card-making swaps, but since I don't really have the supplies for that, the letterwriting is my main focus. :-)
It is a lot of what drives me every day. Lyrics drive my feelings. Music is my blood, my lifeline. Tori Amos is my goddess, but my music tastes span the genres. I have fallen in love with Amanda Palmer recently. In my CD collection (that get used frequently): Nickelback (phooey to all you naysayers - they can still be rocked out to), Linkin Park, Enya, Nine Inch Nails, Loreena McKennitt, Britney Spears, Ting Tings, Avril Lavigne, Slipknot, Shinedown, Hollywood Undead, Mother Grove (Irish music! Bagpipes! ), Flyleaf, Les Miserables soundtrack, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera.....see, spanning the genres....there is very little I don't like. Serious country music (Twang is one way to really turn me off). And rap that is preceded by a silent c (which encompasses about 95% of it).
Books are recent rediscovery. Neil Gaiman is an exquisite storyteller (anything and everything by him, including his kids books). I have been enjoying the Charlaine Harris/TrueBlood novel series. Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart made my insides melt. I fell victim to the hype of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga, though they weren't...um...grownup enough for me. Poppy Z Brite should NEVER have stopped writing horror!! Anne Rice has a way with words - in some of her books. I have had a just-over-mild fetish for the vampire, BEFORE this Twilight over-hype.
Movies are a finicky thing with me. Can usually tell if I like it or hate it by about halfway through the movie. Love Star Wars - old school! In this arena, I was born ten years or so too late...Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Pretty In Pink... Recent favourite is Scott Pilgrim. Loved Green Hornet and Tron. I guess I'm a geek that way. I hate watching people get tortured in any form. Psychological horror films stir me deeply, in a NOT SO GOOD way. Romantic comedies have to be enjoyed with a friend and popcorn. I hate some stupid humor. American Pie falls right there with Porky's...just a different generation, but still amusing to watch, when the mood strikes right.
I don't have a lot of time for television. Plus, we don't have cable, so not a lot of opportunity, either. I do like TrueBlood, though don't get to see enough of it. I LOVE GLEE! And I've recently discovered Doctor Who (I've been watching the first two seasons of it). Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse (yes, Joss Whedon Geek here...). I like shows like CSI, NCIS, The Mentalist, Bones... And of course, some old-school stuff. But that's the crux of it, really.
Again, with the lack of time I have, not a lot of crafting gets done. When I was crafty, and have the space to do it/store stuff for it, I like to do things like braiding and knitting and string-y stuff. I've tried spinning, and am determined to learn it. I like cross stitch, but I like the kits, since I do not have the space to store it right now. I do kumihimo (you can wikipedia that). I do Viking wire knitting. I've taught classes on those two crafts.
